SL crashes after 2 minutes

Hello SL Technical Forum folks,

I have the problem that SL crashes my PC 2 minutes after I login.

When I say "crash" I mean my monitor goes black and there is nothing I can do except hit the power button then restart my PC manually.

I can repeatedly login sucessfully with no problem or error messages.
About 2 minutes is as long as my session survives before I have the hard crash.

This problem began with viewer upgrade 1.14.
I've done all the work arounds and un-installs, clearing caches, deleteing SL folder and reloading SL....seems like a thousand times.
Upgraded ATI drivers, retrograded ATI drivers.
Updated Direct-X and .NET Framework.
Tried running with all firewalls and virus scanners shut down.
None of the above or anything else seems to resolve the issue.

SL support only returns my open ticket emails about every 2-3 weeks or so.
And even then they ask me to do something that they already told me to do and I already did and told them that I did.

1.13 was the last veiwer that worked for me, and here we are at 1.16.
That's how long I've been having this problem...very sad.

Here are my hardware specs.

Dell Dimension 8300.
Pentium 4 @ 3GHz.
1 Gig of RAM.
80Gig HDD.
Win XP Pro w/SP2
ATI Radeon 9800 pro w/ 256M on board RAM currently running driver ver. 8.351.0.0

If you folks have had same or similar prob and know something else I can try please let me know.

Thanks.

Hardrive Hatfield.

Yes I have the same problems with SL totally freezing after about 2 minutes and then having to turn off by holding the power button in. Im pissed because I bought a new comp specially and even checked the required specs.
I have an ASUS 3,6 gig processor, 1 gig ram, ATI radeon 9600 card and thought this would be great, however I was wrong, From day 1 it hasnt worked. Its a dulacore processor but even disabling that doesnt work. Ive reloaded the driver about 20 times and not sure where to go from here, so if you have any good solutions Id love to know.

The Acer I had previously had 512 ram with a Radeon 9200 card and ran SL perfectly, so much for upgrading :(

I have the same prob, im running an XPS optimized for gaming. All my games run PERFECTLY....EXCEPT SL! Linden Labs, please get up and do something to help us. All of us with optimized good computers cant play but the people with the crappy computers can?

I have similar problem, but in a Apple iBook with OSX 10.4. The system freezes, and all i can do is restart the Mac. Before that, SL worked great on it.

I don't understand SL support.
Abishai Linden responded first with canned form letters. then Pierre-Luc Linden respnded. the Abishai again.....

So I guess my ticket just bounced around......that in it self is poor support.

Abishai said this the other day but I did all that and still same thing. Crash after just a few seconds.

Greetings,

I apologize for the delay in answering your inquiry. In order to
expedite the resolution process I'm going to give you two possible
solutions here. The first one is more than likely the culprit. There
is an old "variant" of quicktime available that disrupts Second Life and
overrides the regular Quicktime.

Download quicktime again from:
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
and uninstall anything that says Quicktime (before running the installer
you just downloaded) in your add/remove programs option under control
panel, and then install the Quicktime you just downloaded.

Then: (http://secondlife.com/knowledgebase/article.php?id=331)
Please also use a program called WinMTR so that we can determine if the
problem is with your connection, your ISP, or Linden Lab's network.

It can be downloaded here:

http://winmtr.sourceforge.net/

1) Download and unzip the WinMTR binary program.
2) Start WinMTR.exe.
3) Enter data.agni.lindenlab.com in the Host field and click Start.

Please keep everything as you normally would if you were playing
Second Life (even if you know it will crash). Open Second Life and allow
the WinMTR program to run. Remain in Second Life for approx 5 minutes
(if possible of course). Disconnect from Second Life and return to the
WinMTR program. Export the data (export text option), and please attach
it with your reply.

Regards,

Abishai Linden

There have been numerous posts regarding ATI cards and SL client, go into Preferences (you can do this at the loggin screen) turn off VBO and adjust down the eye candy (bump mapping etc) and try to log in. If that solves your problem, you will have to wait until the drivers ATI and SL resolve the conflict.

BTW, none of your ping rates are above 300 (average), so you shouldn't have problems there.
I also heard (not confirmed), when you start SL (at the login screen), open task manager (Ctrl+Alt+Delete) in applications tab, right click the secondlife.exe file, select priorities and set to low can help!

Well, well well. There might be a solution for us ATI users.

I uninstalled my brand new drivers, and installed the 2 yers old original drivers for my Abit-ATI RADEON 9600 / 256 Mb card.

I'm in SL for 10 minutes allready and didn't crashed. Don't worry, if I'll start crashing again you'll see it here :))

Yeah well, that doesn't help either. Was OK until now, but the craches started again.

Now I deeply hate Linden Labs for awhile.

Last late night installed the "Omega ATI" drivers based on Catalyst 7.1.

Didn't worked. Was still locked out. Then, after 30 minutes of tries at 3AM PDT I logged in wit ha newbie alt and worked. After being able to login with the alt the main character worked too.

It is interesting, that this happens second day in a row. Around 3AM PDT I can login, while until then I crash after maximum 10 seconds.

And yes, I will continue to write down here what I observe. Maybe somebody with technical skills will figure out what is happening.... after all.. Lindens have no response until now...

Of course it didn't worked for long. After 30 minutes I crashed again. I'm tired of trieing. Too bad that I loose cash ingame becaue I can't pay rent for my shops. Today one of them expired...

I'm cashing out after several years as customer.
06-09-2007 20:23
Well I'm cashing out my lindens and leaving SL as a premium account.
I can't even stay in long enough to talk to land buyers or even set my land prices.....

I'll be sure to tell everyone I know about SL and how they treat paying customers.

So long.

I'm very frustrated - have a computer that is exceeds SL requirements - and I can't stay on. We just purchased an island and looking to start/hold meetings - I doubt it- all I can see now is headaches over tech support and people bitching to us. I can't believe it is taking this long to resolve this issue. Is there actual tech support - do they even read these forums or is this just .... a joke.
