New pc.

AMD athelon dual core X2 64 5200Windsor AM2 cpu
asus crosshair AM2 motherboard
evga Gforce8800GTS 640meg vid card
680 watt power supply
corsair dominator ddr2 800 44412 2x1gig ram (2 gigs total)
western digital raptor 10,000 rpm 150 gig hard drive

currently running on xp pro 32bit, but switching to vista 64 on a second hard drive for a dual boot up, any day now, just havent got around to doing it

rig was built for upcoming crysis and my current ms flight sim X.

will not run sl. gives me the generic video card error.

as per the forums (which i did when i first installed the driver) I uninstalled the display drivers

paid and downloaded the stupid drivercleaner program

rebooted in safe mode and ran the cleaner

rebooted while disconnected from the internet and installed the drivers again (6.14.10.9792)

even uninstalled sl at this time and did a clean install, went to start up sl and got the same generic card error....

HERE IS MY CRASH LOG:
http://www.indyhelis.com/junk/SecondLife.log

Please fix this...ive been without sl for nearly 3 months now.

Can you get to the SL login screen? If so, go to prefs, and select "Auto detect graphics hardware" in the General tab. This will cause SL to re-detect your graphics card.

If not, try deleting the SL user settings in your appdata folder so new ones are created.

Also, try the optional First Look viewer.

btw I've heard you shouldn't install 64-bit Vista yet because the drivers are so buggy, or non existent. Do some research first. I'm running the 32-bit ver. and SL runs just fine (I have the 8800GTS 640MB).

no, like i said it wont even boot up, it just pops up the window saying the video card is to generic for sl...never even gets to the login screen

try deleting the SL user settings in your appdata folder

as i said, i tried that and everything recommended in the forums and FAQ's and i uninstalled sl (deleted anything remaining) and reinstalled and it just wont work and is something to do with the 8800gts....

like i said ive got a second new hard drive that will get the 64 bit vista installed and i will have dual boot up drives so i can either go xp or vista... i can slowly install stuff to vista to see if it works yet or not... if not i just boot back into xp and go about my buisness..
My system and drivers are all ready for vista anyways, i did my research...

I just need lindens to address this 8800GTS issue and fix it or give me a answer or at least a reply.

Auto detect does not always work. And how many time have I had to reset the Graphic Card from 16 to 512?

Just for in to your Perferces.... Ctrl-P And check........

I don`t trust auto detect because mostly it fails to set your computer to the right levels....

You said you uninstalled SL, you didn't say anything about deleting the settings file. Uninstalling SL does not delete the settings files.

Wing: Did you try out the new Firstview Client? Maybe a new WinXP user, as I noticed errors related to files in your user dir, although it looks graphics related due to the errors at the end of the log.
If you are willing to spend the time, maybe take out you HD, and temporarily install a new WinXP with drivers and SL on your new HD to see if your WinXP install is the problem.
(I'm betting the last will fix it)

thats a possibility since when i built the new pc the only thing i kept from the old one is the hard drive and i did a system repair on the operating system to keep my old files and programs without a fresh os install. Was pretty sure i had the registry all cleaned up but i guess not. that could very well be the issue....

sorry flash i must have mentioned that in the other thread i had posted in and forgot that bit when i started this thread for myself. but yes i did delete those folders you mentioned.

If you changed motherboard and didn't do a complete reinstall of WinXP, I think that would be the problem. Hope you get it running :)

everything was changed but the hard drive... but allllll my other games and programs was easy to get working under the new system after the system repair and cleanup... SL is the only one that refuses to work... so go figure... im not doing another install of xp... the next install i do will be vista on the new hard drive. Lindens will have to just do without my money for a wee bit longer... tis a shame..wish they would come on here and review that log and just verify if its just a vid card issue or a possible registry issue like we are thinking or???

The application cant initialise some of the opengl features this is probably due to a misinstalled or corrupt driver, you can try uninstalling your graphics driver and see if you can get hold of an old version of drivercleaner http://www.drivercleaner.net/ which was free but now costs 10$ this is the last version that was free http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Uninstallers/Driver-Cleaner-Professional.shtml

Fresh Vista Enterprise install/64bit
03-17-2007 10:24
well after buying that driver cleaner like i said, it still didnt work but no worries, i installed vista 64 bit enterprise on the new hard drive and sl works again even with my gforce8800gts... however, sl obviously isnt written for 64 and everything is slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww...

what a shame for a pc that rated 5.8 on the vista scale (5.9 is the highest) and yet sl runs and operates like its on a 200 mhz computer hahaha...

why do i even mess with sl.... thank god silent hunter 4 comes out next week and crysis aint to far away...
