Hi..i just recently...*2 weeks ago* got satellite installed.....my provider has maximum upload/download limits...in just 2 weeks i have went over my limit for bandwidth according to them...but i sure dont see how...when the stats bar usually shows i am using 5 or 6 kbps of bandwidth....woud like to know if there is an average...even a rough one...for playing SL a few hours each day..i dont upload or download nor do i watch movies..i do stream music during the day but not at nite....according to my isp i have gone over my 7gig limit for bandwidth in only 2 weeks. Does SL use that much?...Virus protection installed...scan every cpl days...no spyware..and am firewalled..i dont use p2p or filesharing at all...SL..email and yahoo are all i use....would appreciate any info...thanks

SL uses a huge amount of bandwidth, especially if you are seeing any packet loss which is pretty likely over high-latency satellite links. Even without loss (and the lousy retransmission scheme) each time SL sends you a single prim, that takes about 3Kbytes excluding any textures associated with it and there are a lot of prims out there.
Plus, the SL bandwidth meter measures what SL sees at the application layer which is much less than comes in the wire (and may not be all that accurate). Assuming you are on Windows, Start->Administrative Tools->Performance can show you what your ISP sees for netwoirk traffic and what your ISP is charging you for.
Good luck with it.

I'll try to figure some figures out for you although not surprised if SL has eaten most of your bandwidth.
On a related note how do you find it with a satellite link as technically they are not supported due to latency on such a connection.
Also streaming music will EAT bandwidth. I broadcast at 64kps so just that alone can give you over 30megabytes of data in 1 hour. That's roughly 220 hours for 7 gig ( if my maths right ) WITHOUT any Secondlife overheads.
Also the bandwidth setting on SL go's up to 1000kps and it's very noticeable if you wind from say 300 or 500 to 1000kps when you zone. i.e. when you zone you WILL be hitting the bandwidth limit for a while. 1000kps = 439 megabytes ( again if my maths is right ) per hour. That's a peak setting but I'd guess it'll idle nearer 100 most of the time not 5 or 6.

According to my logs for the last month a typical week of which at least 90% of the time I'm in SL uses approx... Total tx = 650MB rx = 4.3GB That's quite a lot but I do spend a lot of time in here. Per second Avg tx = 1.8 KB/s rx = 12. KB/s Net Monitor Traffic Log Generated on Jun 11, 2006 13:05:52 AirPort Report for the period Jun 01, 2006 00:00:00 - Jun 07, 2006 23:59:59.
