Well I have been using SL since about early '04 and I have seen the highs and the lows of the system, but that has chnaged today (actulay yesterday is when i got the update and first saw it die).

In the middle of using SL without warning and in no corliation or any visible specific feature SL will full deadlock the machine without warning. You'll know the machine is gone once the mouse stop moving. There is no precursor in terms of syntoms or performance drops just the sudden and imeatate halt in system operability. Mouse doesnt work, keyboard doesnt work, caps/num lock wont toggle (usualy works even in severe system fault situations) and the power button only works if you hold it for the full 5 seconds to cut the machine.

Both times on this happening I sent the bug report after sucessfuly rebooting. Im curious as to whats doing this, at first I thought it was the browser so I didnt launch it at all the second time. Also, neither time did I use any of the building tools. Only Ctrl + Shift + 1.

Check your video and cpu temps also, its worth a shot.

Not an issue, (some what of a nerd) I'm always watching thoes, and there doesnt seem to be anything beyond normal fluctuations. Ontop of that I can still play games like BattleField2 without problems.

We do push the computer harder than video games, I'm afraid.

There's a very real possibility with a laptop that the new renderer simply makes your computer overheat. I'd highly suggest turning down every available option in SL's Preferences that you can.

I had the same problem with my Inspiron 9300 and an online game; it would lock up solid twenty minutes in, every time. The only solution was to turn the graphics settings down as far as they would go.
