A man goes to a doctor, twist his palm 360 degrees lifts his arm behind his back, grabs the elbow with his other hand and pulls downward. The man says "doc, it hurts when I do this", the doctor says "don't do that!".
Sorry. The joke is old and not helpful at all. |

Avatar Vertex Program claims to be faster, but it is only on cards that support it. If you card does not support it, you're likely to have a video bug or crash. I have tried Second Life with and without the Vertex program running and have rarely seen much difference. I would suggest if it crashes you, don't use it, as Malachi so elloquently pointed out

I actualy have noticed a difference between it (but then as a hobby I dabble in video encoding so i have a keen eye for distortions).
If you look at how the back of the avatar is lighted as you turn the avatar you will notice differences between the two on the shoulder blades. I think it looks better off. _____________________

What graphics card are you using, and have you updated its drivers?

Graphics card = Geforce 6800 (128 mb). Drivers are latest Nvidia beta 6766. The issue happened with the standard 6693 driver, too. Mobo and AGP drivers are the latest. DirectX = 9.0c.

It's pretty much a non-option for many Mac users.

When working with nVidia drivers, it's critical that you always disable antivirus, uninstall the previous drivers, then install the new ones. Failure to do so can result in driver corruption that might result in this kind of problem.
Neko: To my knowledge, Second Life isn't the only Mac-compatible game having to disable shader functions on the Mac build... hopefully we'll see improvement soon. |
