Hi guys...anyone else having this problem......or could offer any insight?

Problem.

I log in.......to home location. I potter around.....then set off for another sim. As I cross the border, my av carries on zooming along, then stays on the horizontal. I can rotate, but no forward movement.
I quit.......and every time, I need to reboot the comp as the cable modem has now also dropped connection, and no other websites are available, without a reboot.
Only happens in SL.
Comp is a 3.4ghz Pentium, 1024 ram, Geforce fx5700 256mb, 250gb hd.
Connection is cable at 750k
Any suggestions appreciated.

Wow, that sounds like you're losing connection on sim border crossings. That's weird. Though not TOO weird, considering border crossings are literally disconnecting from one server and connecting to another.

I'd recommend writing Tech Support, but it seems that support@secondlife.com is a dead email. They NEVER respond.

Check your connection, firewalls, things like that... make sure your network card's drivers (and router, if it exists) are up to date.... not sure what else to recommend.

Router?

Vixen -

Are you behind a hardware firewall or router? If so, what Brand & Model? When I joined SL a couple of weeks back, I had similar problems - although I didn't have to cross a sim border to trigger it. Turned out to be a problem with my router. Am happy to help if I can...

Take care,

Thanks guys......no tread, I'm on a straightforward always on cable modem, and have Norton and Zonelab running as standard..but haven't really had any probs with them in the past. Nor is there any trouble running EQ2 for 3 hours at a stretch......:(
