[21:30] Asset server didn't respond in a timely fashion. Object returned to sim.

Over and over - when attempting to take a (full perm, thankfully) object into inventory. :-|

I have no idea what their infrastructure is truly like but i remember one time they had a tree fall nearby and the power was out for a good 20 hours or more.
They don't even use battery backups.

I know SL is a unique platform in some ways but the core is still networking.
3 years ago i would have thought it would be better by now. But back then we had very little issue on the asset server.

It seems as if they are still focused on getting more people in rather than keeping the ones who exist.
Been seeing a lot of bad publicity in the media about SL lately so i wonder if the new management will kick in and realize the obvious any time soon.

They really need to get the platform stable before giving us more toys. We can hardly use the ones we have as it is. Every week its an asset issue, sim issue, transaction issue, something.

Maybe they need to double their network team. They seem to spend all their time temp patching the issue rather finding a stable fix. Maybe if they had another set of hands they could do both.

It seems there aren't any grids that are worthy of 1.0 status!

I've quit 3 times in the last 2 days because SL was being mucked up!
Couldn't do much of anything!
So... my house got a spring cleaning, my laundry is caught up, and my appts are booked till after July 4th, oyah and had a little Rip Van nap ... Living on 3 sims, starting to feel like some ole REG "and I'm paying for this why?" :(

They're really not gonna fix this with a toy database engine behind the whole system. They need to move to PostgreSQL, Oracle or SQLServer.

Hear, Hear, Starbuckk!! I'm a system admin and know a bit about databases, and MySQL, which is what LL is *trying* to use for the many-many-terabyte database that IS the SL asset database, is fantastic for small-to-medium, possibly even semi-large database projects, but what the SL asset cluster has become is WAY beyond what MySQL works well for... I don't even think PostgreSQL would handle it.. I'd bet either Oracle or IBM's DB2 would be the database of choice to have a
stable database..These two database platforms were designed from the ground up for the ability to scale to multi-terabyte clustered databases/datawarehouses.. Of course, these come with a VERY pricey pricetag... So I'd not plan on these asset server problems improving anytime soon, but rather, getting worse as LL continues to load the grid up with new residents, who all start collecting inventory...

/me is curious if the people wanting SL to get off MySQL participate in the AWG or go to the ubergeeky Linden office hours.
