Waiting for region handshake/Login packet never received

Hi, was hoping somebody would be able to help me

I've been trying to use Second Life for a while now, but i've never been able to get passed Waiting for Region Handshake, I always get the error Login Packet never received by login server,

I'm connected through cable internet, using a wireless router with all of the relevant ports forwarded, i've ran winmtr which second life have confirmed with me to show that I have no packet loss at all, they suggested (Second Life Support) that it may be caused by the regions server that I am trying to access, so I have tried some other locations (got them from slurl.com as i've never been able to access second life and don't know where anything is anyway) but still to no avail,

can anybody offer any advice, and I can't connect my computer straight to the cable modem by the way as it is on the other side of the room (far far away!!!)

Any suggestions?

I asked this about 2 weeks ago, and then again a week ago and i'm afraid i've had no luck, but i'll keep an eye on this thread!

I always find that logging in at a remote place like say: Plum/100/100 works after about the third try.

I'm getting this same error at the location I'm logging in from now. It's very frustrating. I don't think I can log in at all.

From what I understand SL has issues with wireless routers try hooking up directly through a cat 5 cable.

In my case, it's not through a wireless router, this is some kind of LAN that I'm hooked up to.

I have been having the same "Region Handshake" problem myself. I thought perhaps it was due to a hotel I am staying at, so I went to a local restaurant with wifi that I normally use (and have used SL successfully from). Same exact thing.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled SL and am totally out of ideas. No changes have been made to any of my laptop settings since successfully signing on at home.

Any ideas anyone?

im having the same problem and i asked the hotels tech support if they are blocking the ports i need to log sl but they said no they dont block any ports. i can log on aol, internet explorer, yahoo, skype but not my sl im out of ideas anyone else know anymore?

I think I have the same problem.
The connection is not wireless, the region is set to "My Home", uninstalles, reinstalled, created another user on my windows machine and i have another strange thing!

Does anyone get a "new" button after the login has failed?

eh yeh loggin in another sim fixed me a few time to, seems my avatar got stuck and couldnt log in ever on certain sims, very rarly happen tho, just have to remember this when it happen again.

Some would say "busy" sim instant, yeh sometimes, but that doesnt explain why one of my alts can set login at the sim im stuck in , and that one gets in .

I use the -login thing tho, so i never see SL first page or region handshake much, but it will give me that annoying "server is logging you out right now blablabla,...ignore it wait, hey im in no matter what that msg says , durr.
