Status page says it's open but I can't log in

The status page says the grid is now open again, but I try to start SL and it sits there spinning its wheels on the "Logging in. Second Life may appear frozen. Please wait." Eventually it stops spinning and just stops responding all together.

Everyone is trying to log in at the same time, and the login servers can only handle so many requests at a time.
