"crashed" but still moving

Okay, so the past couple days have been bad for this. It's happened before but usually not so close together. I'll be sitting there, seeing people's anims still play, everything looks fine. I can even zoom around the place and rez stuff. But I start to notice it's been real quiet. So I try to say something, or stand, or move - and I find out I can't. I wait a while. It's not lag. I log off, come back, and my friends say I logged off several minutes ago, even though I didn't realize I was gone.

Anybody know what causes this?

I don't have any idea what causes this, and I find it quite annoying, since you really have no idea you've been logged out, I keep my minimap open and glance at it every so often when building/scripting, it tends to turn red when you get logged out like that.

It' shappened to me several times. What were you doing before it happened? Did you open the map at all? were you just texting? Do you have a timer on your firewall enabling you to access SL?

I'm told it's something to do with the client-server communication. I've had it happen many times, though it's definitely got better recently. If it's happening a lot in one area you might like to ask a Linden to take a look - after Caledon was rebooted and fixed up a bit, the problem was a lot better, though of course we've had client changes since then so that's not necessarily the reason.

Animations, camera zoom and some more stuff are client-side, so those are still working, although your network connection might have died. What puzzles me is that you say, you can still rez things, which should be impossible if the network really was down.

You could use a network monitoring tool to see, if you're still connected to the internet and give a warning, when a disconnect occured.

Markubis: No timer. And it could be anything - sometimes I was dancing at a club, sometimes I was sitting around chatting, sometimes I was sitting quietly waiting for somebody to say something.

Ordinal: I normally stay to the same locations so I wouldn't know if it was just that area. lol Though it has happened in at least 2.

Zi: By rezzing I don't mean rezzing an object from my inventory. I mean like textures and such that are already in the room.

I've experienced this several times recently as well. I can see my own chat comments to others, can turn in place, can mouse around with my camera... but I can't move at all, and can't hear anyone. You also can't rez things from inventory while in this state. They reported that I froze and crashed some time earlier.

On a recent occasion I was just standing in place, discussing flex hair texturing with two other people. They suddenly stopped responding, and I found I couldn't move... I'm pretty sure there were only three of us in the sim. So it wasn't lag.

On another occasion, I teleported to a sim, things started to rez, and then stopped, with many things missing. Again, I could turn, but could not move.

The last two updates seem to be more prone than others to leaving you in this state if they lose communication with the servers. In my case, I have had other issues recently with my net connection momentarily dropping. It's an ISP issue that also affects my web browsing, so I know it's not entirely SL's fault - just minor glitches in access. But SL is losing the data stream and not reconnecting when the connection comes back an instant later. Best bet is, if you realize you can't move, and can't rez items, but you can turn in place freely, quit and restart. That should fix it.

Yup that's exactly the problem I'm having, basically all I do now is keep an eye on the minimap while building, and if chatting i'll take a few steps back and forth every few seconds.

Problem with the "try moving" thing is, I'm usually sitting somewhere when it does it these days (my favorite club stopped having events when I'm actually awake lol) so I don't think to get up every few minutes. Trying to talk is how I do it, as when it happens to me I can't even see my own chat. IMs sometimes, but not chat.

i have this same problem. however, it only does this too me during the day time hours. at night it rarely happens which is weird. i blame my cable connection/configuration. i think i'm going to try and play with the config and see if it changes anything. i'm still at a loss for what to do and it's really annoying having to relog every few minutes because i lose connection to sl.

This is happening to me as well. I'll get in game and it won't let me move, I will show up somewhere off the map, and my avatar won't show up ethier. I've restarted so many times, I waited a few hours, reported it, and nothing is happening. I tried to re locate or tp to another place with no luck. I can hear others around me but I don't see them. And also I IMed a friend to tell her something was wrong and my name didn't show up in chat on my screen or hers. Grr It's bugging me so much!

Last night I was in a club, dancing by using a dance bracelet. I was turning to look around and see who else was present, and suddenly couldn't stop turning in place. Checked the mini-map, and yup, it was red. Quit and re-logged and came back OK.
