Hello Dear Friends,
I have no probs to load and play SL from my Notebook but on my PC:
Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.02 Ghz with 1,00 GB RAM NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 Model 64 graphic card
I can`t even start the SL programm (downloaded the latest version). When I start SL from my desktop I get a errormessage saying:
Second Life appears to have frozen or crashed...
Any suggestions how I can fix that and get SL to run?
Thanks a million in advance!

NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 Model 64 graphic card <wont work ** Second Life may not run on graphics/video cards other than the ones listed above. Unfortunately, if your graphics card includes any of the following words, it's NOT compatible with Second Life: - nVidia cards that report as a RIVA TNT or TNT2
- ATI cards that report as RAGE or RAGE PRO
- ATI cards that report as RADEON 320M, 340M, 345M, or similar model numbers
- Intel
- Intel Extreme
- 3DFX
- RIVA
- TNT
- SiS
- S3
- S3TC
- Savage
- Twister
- Rage
- Kyro
- MILENNIA
- most cards by MATROX
The following cards have not been tested with Second Life, and compatibility is not certain: - nVidia cards that report as Quadro
- ATI cards that report as RADEON IGP or RADEON XPRESS
- ATI cards that report as FireGL
- ATI cards that report as FireMV

Ok I think then that mine is not compatable, I am not tech savay at all, but when looking at properties it reads: Plug and Play monitor on intel (R) 82865G Graphics Controller. Question now is can I purchase a new compatable graphics card and install it over what is in there?

You have to physically open the pc and take out, insert a new card, if its a laptop you cant upgrade at all. This is a agp demonstration link (very old) but basicly the same, just nowadays its pci-e (agp does exsist still just cant really buy a pc with them anymore) Replacing agp vid card Troubles with new vid card can be some tho; -rare , size to big card -pci only slots (not recommended upgrading at all) -integrated vid card, no agp/pci-e option -powersupply on pc can pretty much crash you if its used with a demanding vid card. You can have store do it for you, but watch out they tend to recommend piece of... well bad vid cards, , but entire installation shouldnt take more then 15min
Expect to pay from 70-400$ for one, i dont really know prices where you live probably
Upgrading vidcard can be nice, but doesnt do much if rest of the pc is behind, youll end up paying for something and notice no diffrence till rest is upgraded/replaced

Umm, would anyone hip about video cards want to comment on whether the ATI Radeon 9250 MystiBlue mentioned would be the best choice for the money?

Since it seems the SL is the only 3D application you run, I would reccomend against any ATI card. The reason is that, though STI cards work, the way they handle the type of 3D graphics used in SL is not as good as nVidia, and has been known to cause issues. Thili's reccomendation of a 6600 based card would be the minimum I would reccomend.
