Hi all,
I have been granted permission or blessing to repost this question in the technical part of this forum..
I have sound max instead of Sound blaster installed on my dell computer. For some wierd reason even after a couple uninstalls and reinstalls I cannot see the white dots above peoples heads or get thier names in the active chatter box that popups up on the side.
I run the voice wizard over and over nothing happens.
Yes voice is enabled under edit and prefrences..
I had one person tell me they have a dell and have no problems and I did just install the latest sound drivers..
I do have a small mic from walmart a clip on nothing special it worked great for skype^^

Do you think I have some whacky thing in the client tab checked? Maybe its a graphics card setting as to why I cannot see the white dots?
Is ther a direct download or special help page?

I went to help island no one there was able to figuer it out. they said clean cashe uninstall dl the new client next day clean the cashe again

I did all that.. Is there something else I am missing... at atleast be able to hear others when they are chatting even if I cant participate?
Do any other Dell users suffer from not being able to use voice?

I even uninstalled my Skype which worked fine just to make sure there were no conflicts.

I need Help!!

I see you have posted about this before and maybe this will shed some new light.Checking the debug log can possibly help give you information about what is going on.

1. Turn on debug console - Client-> consoles->debug
2. Once that is done, make sure no one IMs you or anything b/c it may be hard to see the results
3. Enable voice.
4. Check the debug output.

If you are on windows you can find a copy/pasteable debug output version in something like:
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Second Life
Of course, I'm doing this from memory and am not on my main system so you may have to hunt around in the secondlife folder. Anyway look for the text that matches (close to the bottom of the debug log) and paste it here so people can see what the client says about this problem.

The 401 Unauthorized error should *not* be happening anymore. If someone does create an account and it happens to have the 401 unauthorized problem it should be, according to what I was told, rectified within 24 hours. So I am doubtful that this is a 401 Unauthorized scenario and something else is going on.

Hope this helps.

Couple things…
First suggestion would be to go out and buy a headset with mic. You cant compare Skype with Second Life Voice. You should be able to find something adequate for around $30US
Verify that Second Life is using the correct microphone and speakers for voice.
Under Windows use Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices > Voice.
And it could be a possible firewall issue
You can verify if your firewall is configured for voice by visiting the website http://www.testyourvoip.com/ to identify common problems.
Try those and if it's still not working shoot me an IM and we can try some other things. :)

well I ran the software from the url I was givien.
this is what I got as a result.

You have chosen to decline the applet's security certificate. The VoIP testing will not be performed.

<EnablePushToTalk value="FALSE" />
- <!-- Enable talking to other residents with a microphone
-->
<EnableVoiceChat value="TRUE" />

- <!-- Rectangle for Audio Volume window

<FloaterAudioVolumeRect value="958 21 180 225" />
- <!-- Rectangle for build options window.

Not sure if its something I did or what the problem is?? I know that I did check my firewal everything seems to be ok on that end.. maybe not??
