Hi,
I'm new to second life, first thing to do I decided was to buy some clothes, so I bought a couple of t-shirts, when I drag tham from my inventory to my character it looks like I'm wearing a giant black card with a picture of the t-shirt in the middle.
Am I just being dumb? Is this the right way to go about it.

Welcome to Second Life Ashen, you have continued the ancient tradition of wearing the box the item came in rather than the clothing itself, something all newcomers to SL have to do at least once and some of us continue to do on a regular basis.
Rez the box on the ground, right click it and select "open". Inside you'll see your t-shirt which you should drag into the clothing folder in your inventory. delete the box and wear your t-shirt from your inventory.

SOmeone should make shirt-shaped boxes with box shaped shirts in them, just to celebrate this tradition.
