Windows hangs on by a thread then... It exists now ONLY to run SL. That's it. I'm sure even Sage will make the move to XP via VMWare.

I honestly don't understand why all these companies support windows and mac only. Window's is prolly the WORST OS in history. Very buggy and FULL of security hole's that nearly every virus/cracker/hacker and whatnot exploits. I don't understand this near hatred of linux. I don't get why commercial developer's are scared to develop for it. An open source OS doesn't you HAVE to open the source code for everything you write for it. Hell, LL, keep ur sources closed and charge us linux user's for the damn client. I'll PAY! It's OK to develop for linux. So what if window's user's loose out on feature upgrade's for a few month's or so. How about getting a bigger user base and then giving us better feature's. Sl is FINE the way it is... or was till u broke 1.7 for us linux user's. Really, at the very least, TEST ur client in linux too before u upgrade or w.e, and give us a TINY bit of support. Don't leave us behind just because we chose to use a BETTER operating system.

VMWare is getting better, though. Also, staffing being what it is - they can only fulfill so many requests for development resources, but I'm sure you know that.

I was so impressed I bought a copy this morning. I can't wait to get it on my Linux box. The next time Em says "Ugh Linux, I want windows" I'll just boot up Windows for her in a lil window :)

I really think we should petition Linden Labs for AT LEAST a Linux-friendly (WINE-friendly) version of Second Life.

VMWare has recently come out with a free 'player' that can use pre-built VMWare images. I haven't used it myself since I have a licensed copy of VMWare Workstation 5, but I found that to be pretty cool. So far I really like the product, been using it at work for several months now, and it totally saved my ass when my laptop hard drive blew up, I just pulled files back across after rebuilding my Linux install, and was up the next day :)

Yes I forgot about the player. I might make myself a Linux installation and put it onto my girlfriend's laptop :D
