Some unsupported graphics cards, such as Intel Extreme Graphics (motherboard integrated graphics) work with limitations, though there is no guarantee that they will continue to. Others don't work at all and never will work; that includes pretty much any add-in card that has a chip set made by somebody other than NVidia or ATI, and any integrated graphics interface from somebody other than Intel, ATI, or NVidia. You can find the list of officially supported graphics cards elsewhere on the SL web site.
If Second Life won't run on your card, the only thing you can do is replace it with a supported card. What you can install depends on what sort of slot, if any, your system has for a video card. There have been many threads on this forum on the subject; try looking back farther for specific advice.
