Calling the Keystone Kops!!!

I haven't been coming in to sl as of late simply because when I do I can't go anywhere since the teleporters don't work many times. This is an issue that has gone on unresolved by the tech team here. But tonight I did come in and together with my girlfriend and some friends we wanted to go to a nice event they were having.

I figured since they had worked on the game earlier today that they at least fixed it so you could tp anywhere you wanted to.

For over an hour we tried to teleport to the event and not one of us was able to do so. Not one of us made it out and the event finished without any of the persons at my house making it out. We logged out, we went to other places when we was able to tp which was rare in itself since the tp wasn't working right and nothing, the night wasted away on this.

This is total bullshit!! Honestly, it just seems like it's totally, realistically impossible that any of the people who work this game know what the hell they're doing? The team here that supposedly fixes this game are like the Keystone Kops of the gaming world. You have to give them their dues, they're totally clueless.

The teleporter hasn't been working properly for a very long time now. People are constantly complaining, yet, all these complaints continue to fall on deaf ears. Please surprise us, for once fix something we need and fix it the correct way, not half way, not a little, but make it the way it should be, completely fixed and now.

As for me, I'm back to where I was, away from here.

Well, I haven't been having all that much trouble myself. Was the event crowded? If there were more than 40 avatars no one can TP until someone leaves. Also, if the sim is lagging badly due to heavy prim use, tori hair and such, TPs can fail then too.

tp workarounds incase you weren't aware of them ...
01-11-2007 18:33
Last night there certainly were horrific tp issues, and the Lindens eventually got them (semi) sorted out.

I've found the following ways to work around rough/difficult tp's (not all the time, just some of the time these work):

request a tp from someone already where I'm trying to go (regular tp functions, but full/lagged sim)

When tp's are failing all over, I'll resort to the following:

take off all prims and then port
take off all prims, fly up to a couple of hundred meters up (less lag) and then port

relogging/rebooting & trying to port

relogging & changing my login point to "Home" or "Last Location"

relogging & changing my login point to the name of the sim I'm trying to get to

That failing, I'll often resort to percussive maintenence (j/k)!

While your post might be a bit helpful, why should you have to resort to doing all these time consuming things just to tp somewhere?
This shouldn't be the case if these guys did their jobs the way they're meant to be done, the correct way and not some half-ass job like it's usually done here. Especially since it's gone on for such a long time now with nothing having been resolved.

What I find amusing is they held off the latest patch because they found problems with it while trying to deploy it, but then they still manage to screw things up with the game anyway. Missing inventory, teleport problems, severe lag, etc. Fun :D

you know that when peoples insult them on their own forums, sometimes companies ban their account?

You know what? While it may be true that they would ban you if you said something about them, nothing but nothing that's been said here is a lie, it's all true. So if they banned someone, it would be because they don't like hearing the truth.

Besides, most people here like myself don't really care anymore if it happened. This tends to happen when you get so fed up with this same thing all the time. It's very frustrating to have to go through the same thing day after day with nothing being done although you see floods of complaints everywhere.

You know how many times I've had to log out just to get to my home? And this is every single time I've come in and I know many others are also going thru' these same problems every day.

While I'm aware things break down, this isn't what gets people upset. It's the way they go about fixing stuff here, or should I say, not fixing them that gets you after a certain amount of time goes by.
How many complaints must be issued to get results? A good company see's problems arise and they go out and take care of them in a proper time frame.

I hang, not willingly

Hay,

At least you can login.

I can't even login now. My system hangs, no mouse, no keyboard, have power off. just with the client loaded, even before logging in.

Right after installing I was able to login. I roamed around the oration island for several hours. No hangs, worked great. (Considering I have an older machine (Athalon Thunderbird 750, 750GB ram, Biostar M7VKB, Geforce FX 5700LE [Bought especially for SL], Windows 2000 SP4) The system has ran flawlessly for several years. The only problem is now when the SL client is running.

The client is still mostly with the default settings. I did try changing some settings suggested in the posts to reduce crashing. Also tried clearing the cache. Haven't tried reinstalling.

However, other software I have doesn't require periodic reinstalling. As a software writer I find this all rather unsettling.

If you reinstall and that doesn't work, you might want to try doing a complete uninstall and then reinstall. This has been known to solve problems for people.

I'll try that, perhaps the complete uninstall.

It just occurred to me, it hadn't hung until when the server I was connect to crashed. I was trying to cross the chasm at the time. After that it would intermittently hang. and it seems to have gotten worse so that now it hangs just a few seconds after launching the client.

At first I thought it might be my graphics card so I made sure I had the most recent driver. And I updated the VIA chip set driver on my MB. Then I thought maybe my disk was to full and got a bigger disk. Still no good. And there was a KB article about some graphics causing Athalons to hang. Didn't help. And I read something about AGP Apratures affecting graphics, didn't mention hangs, but I tried it anyway. Still no good.

I've probably spent as much time trying to sort this out as I've spent in world!

Interesting that now I feel deprived that I can't get in when just a month ago I didn't even know about SL and felt great. I guess I must be hooked now ;-)

Because there's many times more users online than SL is capable of supporting.

Just out of curiosity.

How popular is SL in relation to other MMPGs?

Yeah but that's like walking into a bathroom and finding that nobody has cleaned the toilets in a decade. You can get there, but you can't use it.

Ok, just for the record.

I patched a couple things on my system and put in a bigger, and also faster, disk. Still was hanging.

Now I've done a complete uninstall. (Deleting the user settings and all)

I downloaded the latest version again, just to be sure, and reinstalled.

I've been logged on about 6 hours now, no hangs, no crashes, every thing's cool.

Of course I'm still on help Island and reading tutorials and trying things out isn't all that demanding, but still it's a whole lot better than it was when I couldn't get in at all.
