Can SL make use of quad core processors? I have heard people say that most software isn't written to take advantage of quad core CPUs, and wondered if a SL is one of them. Anybody know?

Should it matter? Are you having problems with framerate? I'm on a dual FX74 system and I'm indifferent to if its using all the cores or not. I have so many other programs I want to be running at once that I'm just glad the other cores are there to take up the load. (^_^)y

No my computer seems to do fine with SL, I have a newer dual core. So is that processor you have a quad core? What do you think does it seem like you are getting a boost from it?

My system uses two dual core chips to make a whole quad. I'm using rather cheap Nvidia 256MB 8600GT cards in SLI. I usually have BT, Winamp, Mozilla, PSP, and ACDSee running behind SL and there's no lag on me. (^_^)

My normal frame rate in Windlight Ultra 1600x1200 with Impostors off is anywhere from 20 to 30 FPS and it will droop to 12 if I find myself at an event with 60 or more avatars. I'm a weaboo, not a gamer, and Anime is drawn at 15 FPS, so I'm more than willing to tolerate those speeds. (=_=)

If I wanna go faster, like for a toob race or blitz build, I'll close the other programs and pull my draw down to 64. I almost always go over 40 FPS after that. (^_^)y

I see what you're saying, its nice just being able to run the different programs at once even if SL isn't making use of all 4 cores itself. Mine seems to do ok with this, I have run a few programs at the same time and it doesn't seem to slow down or crash although I have never used a computer with a quad core.

I'm not sure what resolution im at in SL but when i checked i was getting around 25 or 30 frames per second. My computer has a Core2Duo and my video card is an 8800 GT. I am wondering if the people with quad core computers are getting better performance with SL or if its not able to take advantage of it.

I have a quad core CPU which is a replacement for a dual core. I haven't notice any significant difference in proformance with the move to the quad except that I can run multiple programs now.......I can even let Windows do a scheduled backup while playing SL. Only indication I get is the little icon on my task tray saying it's running and the pop up telling it's complete.

...I can run multiple programs now...
I think that's the best reason to go multicore on a home system. It's not so much for getting one program to run uber quick. Really, to best make use of more than one program running without one lagging the other. It's why I did it. I'm a multitask hog. (^_^)

Yeah, ditto on the "multitasking" thing. :) I just got a quadcore and it makes my system a pleasure to use no matter what I throw at it! I do like to run SL in conjunction with other apps, and now I can with no noticable drop in performance at all. Awesome. :)
