Is what you're complaining about those little black splotches on the ground? That is weird. What video card are you using? What version of video drivers are you running? How long have you been seeing those splotches?

I'm not an ATI expert but I've heard mention of the Omega Drivers - http://www.omegadrivers.net/

Could you give us the number of the driver you are using? It looks like new ATI drivers were released this month. They are on Catalyst 5.6 23864. https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&folderID=27 _____________________

That looks like the alpha_gradient_2d.tga is corrupting (in laymans terms its one of the two invisible textures that can be used to hide avatars, bet you didn't know they were used in generating the ground). I would run memory diagnostics on your video cards and your systems. Would also recommend looking to see if your video card is overheating.

Yeah, in all honesty, that's going to be heat, power, or bad memory. The fact that it's just started happening makes me think it's probably heat artifacting. Does your video card have a temperature sensor? How hot does it get when you're running SL?
Edit: Wait, your account's two days old. Is this your original account, or have you been able to successfully use SL without splotches previously? _____________________

I've had that before. If your card is still under warranty, return it ASAP!
The memory is dying, possibly of heat death. The black splotches mean a sector of VRAM could not be accessed. If you get a new fan or underclock your computer you can prevent further damage to it, but the one you have now is irreversible. Your card will probably only last a few more months, the corruption will get worse and then your PC will end up crashing when you run anything 3D on it. Don't you just love the quality levels of modern hardware!? _____________________
