I have a Pentium 4 2.4Ghz 533MHz using an Intel D845GEBV2 mobo. 512 RAM. I use a Radeon 9600SE 128MB graphic card. When I run SL, my computer either freezes or shuts down or freezes and shuts down. Just after less than a minute. If I play Warcraft 3, the computer will completely freeze during gameplay. I attempted to patch that gave and everything to no avail. Still freezes 5 to 20 minutes into the game. Now when I remove my graphics card, and plug my monitor into the onboard monitor port of my bobo, both games run fine. Has anybody ever experienced this with SL? Can anybody give me some insight into this situation? My first thought is that my powersupply is not strong enough to handle the load of my graphic card. Could that be it?

Get more RAM! And maybe a 350 watt power supply. But defiantly more ram.

It could be that the card is overheating. Check the fan to make sure it is running and what I usually do is touch around the bottom of the card, if it burns you- it's overheating. Fix accordingly or purchase a new video card. BTW- the first answer is always a good idea as well. MOAR RAM and MOAR PSU can never ever hurt you. (I'm a MOAR type of person when it comes to those two)

I had that problem last year with SL. I had a 9600XT. It was the drivers from ATI that was causing it. Patch your card up to the latest drivers and see if that works.

Definitely get the latest drivers for the card. That era of card (9500-9800) has problems with OpenGL programs like SL, especially the drivers. My 9800pro had the same problem until I switched to an Nvidia 6600 and a huge amount of problems went away. Tiger Direct has the 6600 for $20 with rebates

Thanks. Yes I forgot to mention that I already updated to the latest drivers for my ati card and my mobo. Thanks for all the answers. I will work on this. The prob with WarCraft 3 has been going on since Jan04. My computer was about a year old at the time. I have a feeling it is the card though. I just remered that I tried to use that card in another computer, and I had the same problem with SL. No matter which computer I put that card in, my SL freezes. Even when I update the drivers for it. BTW, SL is not directx correct? Does opengl have a latst version like directx? How do I check my opengl version? According to the ATI site, all 9600 cards: "Supports DirectX® 9.0 and the latest version of OpenGL" I believe I have the ATI 9600SE. The difference between the rest of the 9600 and the SE is that the SE is 128MB-64bit while the rest is 128MB-128bit. However, I am not sure if I really have the SE version as windows only tells me I have a 9600 series card. How do I check the exact version card I have o be sure?

Checking what card you have is difficult, doesnt Catalyst has somethying to say? I do know never ever touch your card to check if the fan is working, you could easely damage it , the more if it is overheated. What you need is more RAM, and buy a new card. Ati AGP cards are on discount every were, since the use PCI-E now. A Ati 16XX pro should do the trick.
