This is only the second time this has ever happened to me in SL. I fly over a piece of land and my security pops up a warning asking me if I want to allow a Java or ActiveX applet to run. I'm not an expert in this area but I know that some Java and ActiveX controls can put viruses on your computer as well as gain information from it. So is this unusual and/or allowed?
I tried asking LL but that had no clue what I was talking about or maybe I'm not explaining it right?

Doubt its SL , prob some background service trying to download/upload something, check adaware/spyware , could be some program that checking for newer version/updates to, that could trigger that alert.
The security prog you use should also give you a file report wich one is trying to start, and where it is on your drive.

Well here's the thing. I can walk on the particular land and it will trigger my firewall, walk off, clear the firewall warning, walk back on that lot and wham, there it pops up again? So it's for sure SL or I should say in SL, in game, and something that someone is putting on that land. Both times I ran across land that this happened on I was able to see the apparent website it was being triggered from but because it wasn't my land I couldn't see what in SL was being used to do it such as the script or creator or what ever?
Now my firewall is set to block all ActiveX and Java till I say it's ok and whatever is on these parcels of land causing this is attempting to send me to a website and run an ActiveX control on my computer. Even without the ActiveX control being used let me give you an example of how you could use this type of script in SL. I could have an avatar scanner on my land to know when you arrive, another script that forced your computer to open up a web page. In that web page I can have an IP tracking program. So, I basicly could link your avatar to an IP address and trace you down in RL!

Give someone else the parcel name and see if it can be replicated. Make sure your security is updated and running. Single incidents aren't enough to warrant an 'investigation' but if you can have a Linden come by and see if they too can trigger what's going on, you might have valid reason to take it further. good luck!
