Well my ripple option is grayed out. I could have sworn I saw someone with the same video card as me say that it worked fine for them. I have an ATI Radeon 9800. Any ideas? Having waterfront land makes me really want to see ripples. Any help would be appreciated.

I have the same card and can see the ripples. I don't have any advice to give you, only wanted to let you know this. I read somewhere about updating drivers but not sure if that will help. Hope you get it figured out :D

1. uninstall ati drivers
2. use this to be sure you got all http://www.drivercleaner.net/
3. restart
4. install using omegadrivers http://www.omegadrivers.net/

It works with 9800's

When I go to my home at Avalon Lagoon and watch the water, imbued as it is with newly-hatched awesomeness, I'll happily accept the frame rate drop just to watch the waves rolling in.

Ok I was way off, for some reason I thought I had a Radeon 9800, it's a 9200. Anyone know if it works with this card?

r9200 >>
Full support for DirectX ® 8.1 programmable pixel and vertex shaders in hardware
1.4 pixel shaders support up to 22 instructions and up to 6 textures per rendering pass
1.1 vertex shaders support vertex programs up to 128 instructions

wouldnt bet on it no :(

r9800 >>
Full support for Microsoft® DirectX® 9.0 programmable vertex and pixel shaders in hardware
2.0 Vertex Shaders support vertex programs up to 65,280 instructions with flow control
2.0 Pixel Shaders support up to 16 textures per rendering pass

^^ works

Someone mentiond 6600 cards is about 127$? i dont know prices over there :o

My recommondation would easy be a gf6600 128/256mb card, very good price / performance on them :)

comes in agp/pci-e version, depends on your motherboard, i used a ati9800pro few months ago with SL, got a 6800gt card now.

Carefull with cards that has the prefix > LE , MX, (rip off versions imo)

I know i read somewhere what Linden recommendation for SL ripple was, errr finding it was another thing, :p

This prob not right but im guessing :P for ripple >
9500 (or higher Ati)
fx 5500 gf (or higher nvidia)

6600 is a good value card, make sure to get the one with onboard ram so if it looks too cheap to be true it probably is.

Ripple water requires pixelshader 2 support
Correct with ati at 9500
and any Geforce 5FX card or above will work even the 5200 but it will be a bit of a performance hit
