I was wondering if I can run 2 SL's on the same machine. When i try to do it it tells me it is already running.

Thanks

The answer is in this thread.

Also, the command line options are described in more detail here.

As a matter of fact, yes you can but you need a powerful computer to make it work. Best way is to make a desktop shortcut for each of your avatars you plan on using. First thing you need to do is right-click on the second life icon and select "create shortcut". Rename this shortcut to the name of the avatar you want to use. You will need to make a shortcut for each one. Now right-click on the new shortcut and select "properties". Under "Target" you will see something like this: "C:\Program Files\SecondLife\SecondLife.exe". You will need to add some modifiers to this line to get the multiple avatars to work. Be sure to add a space after the quote and type: -login fistname lastname password -multiple . Your target line should look like this but with your second life name and password: "C:\Program Files\SecondLife\SecondLife.exe" -login Firstname Lastname password -multiple

If you experience problems such as IMs going to the wrong avatar you will also need to designate a port so your router knows what packets go where. Give each avatar a different port number between 130000 and 130050, doesn't matter as long as it's different. Be sure and add a space and type -port 1300xx where xx is a number between 00 and 50.

Once you're done, hit "apply" and OK and you should be done. The advantage of using this is it will allow you to bypass the login screen and automatically log you in plus allow multiple avatars. The only real disadvantage to using this is you will have to use the standard login screen before and after every update to the client. If you attempt to log in and nothing happens, LL has likely distributed a new update and you will need to use the old log in shortcut to get second life to download the updater automatically. After you update and install the new client just use the old login shortcut one more time. This should be good until the next update where you will need to do it again.

Without actually seeing your target line, my best guess would be either you didn't put the spaces in where they're supposed to be or your username isn't spelled or capitalized exactly the way it is on the normal login screen or perhaps you misstyped the password. It has to be your second life name not your real name.
