firstly, please excuse the non-tech element of this post ..... i'm not computer savvy..... i reloaded XP Home Edition onto my computer after a virus issue and ran SL prior with no problems whatsoever. Now, i get message that my vid card wont support and get message it is "GDI Generic". i have read Linden messages and seen links to nvidia and ATI but neither show support for the vid card i have. The one i have is "HP Pavillion a1040a" .... i have been to their website but cannot see specific vid card update/DL that i need. sideline...i also have no audio, but updating audio from HP's site isnt working, tho i can do without the sound for now. Has anyone experienced same with an HP vid card? my SL ran just fine prior to the reformat and reloading of XP.... is it just me? (( please help!

I did a search on your PC and found it here http://www.trademe.co.nz/Computers/Desktops/Without-monitor/auction-72784494.htmand i think you should forget about trying to find a solution at Nvidia but instead try to get the latest ATI drivers as it is ATI you have in this computer.

yasmine, https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&folderID=27Select Windows XP Drivers and Software (next screen) Select RADEON (next screen) Select Catalyst 6.9 Windows XP - Driver Download Windows Update does not allow you to download ATI's video driver, only Microsoft's generic one. MS's version does not include OpenGL support, but ATI's does.

Oh yes Yasmine, sorry my link was just a link describing the hardware you have, where i ve seen that you have ATI and not Nvidia, but Yeats Xi in the previous reply gives you the way to get to what you need: https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&folderID=27Select Windows XP Drivers and Software (next screen) Select RADEON (next screen) Catalyst 6.9 Windows XP - Driver Download and on that page, scroll down up to Low Speed (Dial-up) Display Driver Only Download 1 of 3 12.3 09/20/06 and click on DOWNLOAD 1 OF 3, this is the thing you probably need (just the driver, dont bother for anything more)

Generic Card Error RADEON 9550
10-14-2006 08:01
My Nvidia 5600 died, so I looked at the supported drivers on the sl site and I ended up buying a Radeon 9550 and now im getting a generic card error and i log into sl for about 10 secs and then I crash. I've been to the ATI site and dl the drivers, still no luck. I've uninstalled and reinstalled sl, that didnt make a difference either. Not too sure what else I can do. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
