Second Life Login Screen reporting "old drivers"?

So, I didn't understand anyone's complaints about performance issues going on lately in SL... I had everything turned all the way up on my wee 128mb ATI 9250 pro and was getting awsome performance (at least, on the windows side... the Linux side is another story entirely...)... then I decided to do the stupid thing and fix something that wasn't broken - I updated my drivers to the latest from ATI.

I believe I was using version 5.x, and updated to catalyst 6.3... now when I open Second Life, it tells me I'm using 'old' drivers and that I need to 'upgrade' to catalyst 3.8 drivers! The only thing I can figure is that when I go to the 'about' in the ATI control panel, it says '06.3' in the version number, instead of just '6.3'. Is this a known thing, or should I report it?

In any case, this would only be a minor annoyance except... now, I'm getting /terrible/ performance, lockups, and random crashes. I tried uninstalling the official drivers and going with the Omega drivers (which worked wonders for my laptop with the 128mb shared ATI 200M), but it made things even /worse/, no matter what I set everything to...

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Give them a try, you should be happy with the results, uninstall your old drivers first.

Bumping this back up since I still don't have an answer, other than looking like I'm crazy and talking to myself since the person who actually did respond deleted their answer... :)
