So, I tried to download the updated ATI drivers from the ati site on Friday night, wouldn't let me do it for some reason, tried and tried but to no avail. So I decided to download the omega drivers for my radeon 9000 32mb agp videocard.

Wooo, it worked, for a while, and it was still very slow, but I put up with it until the wee hours of the morning.

Logged off SL, went to log off my pc, but it restarted itself, strange I thought, waited for it to reboot, as it was trying to, I got an error message, windows cannot load because the windows/system32/config/sytem file is corrupt, please reinstall windows ... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Tried until 4am saturday morning to reinstall windows, but i kept getting various message sayins my hard disk was corrupted, blah blah blah...

Got an engineer out on saturday afternoon, put on a second drive, looked at the original and all was fine, just couldn't access it when it was on it's on, only decision was to copy my data over onto the 2nd drive and format the original disk.

So here I am Sunday evening, 38 hours after crashing out, ready to give it a go again.

But this time I went back to the ati website and managed to download the updateed drivers, and am not going to touch omega stuff again as that is all I can think could have done it ... I hadn't downloaded anything other than SL and the omega drivers that day.

Geez, the trouble I've gone to just to play this game!!

I doubt seriously that the Omega drivers caused the crash. Omega gets and tests drivers directly from ATI. The only thing Omega does is tweak the drivers for optimum performance.

Is it possible you didn't delete the ATI drivers and Catylyst before installing the Omega drivers? If so that could definately cause a problem.

I double checked that I had deleted the ATI drivers, and can verify this as all programmes were lagging on screen because I had no drivers installed whilst I installed the omega drivers.

I'm not definate that it was the omega drivers, but I haven't downloaded anything for the whole day, infact I haven't downloaded anything even remotely suspect for a while now.

Anyway, I'm going to ensure that I back up every few weeks now, as I use the puta alot and it will come in handy if this ever happens again.
