immediately after i execute the program, i get the title bar and window, but instead of a login screen, it's just all the frozen pixels of what was displaying the frame before the window popped up. no error message, no other text or anything else i could think to tell you. i tried updating directx and my display drivers, reinstalling second life, and restarting the system. any other ideas?

Did you try clearing the cache?

tried that now, no dice. also tried deleting that whole SecondLife folder (that has the cache in it) and reinstalling the game. also no dice.

how much ram do you have? perhaps you'll need to shut down some of the other programs you have running simultaniously.

to narrate, i left the browser open that i was viewing this thread with. you can continue to see the frozen display of the browser. i did notice that when i hovered the mouse over certain areas, i get the text selection cursor, like around where i would enter my user name and password. so maybe the application is actually running, it's just not displaying anything at all.

are u on the latest version? if you are, try rolling back to the previous 1.17.2

are u familiar with pc parts? try taking out the RAM(s) and use a single piece at one time, close all unneccasry programs (your instant messenger etc) and try running sl. i used to be in some kind of similar situation like yours before, it was narrowed down to a piece of RAM in my case.

i've had this problem with 1 17 2, and i tried using the latest 1 17 3 today, with the same problem. i run some other games which are much more memory intensive than second life's login screen, or at least i think so. (warcraft, bf2412) so i wouldnt think bad ram is the problem, but i'll try switching some out.

i also noticed, when i installed the newer version, that it's asking my firewall for permission, so it's probably connecting to the server. i've tried it without the firewall too.
