My partner and I are co-developing on various projects. We have mod rights on each other's things in order to enable this. Last night he noticed that he was no longer able to select and see/mod individual parts of my linked objects. I checked and found that I am no longer able to do this with his objects either.
Unless I've missed something saying this is a new security feature (good lord I hope not) then it must be a bug. We've given each other full access rights, and I'm assuming the designation still means exactly that.
It's a crippling change.

I have no idea why this was implemented either, and I know what you mean. Now, when someone drops a malignant object on my friend's property, I can't see any scripts that might be causing a problem if they are not in the main prim. it's also hard to see what parts of objects are scripted that I intend to purchase, and that could affect my decision to buy them. It is indeed a crippling change, but unlike many others, I don't see the necessity of it in practical performace terms.

I noticed the same problem when trying to edit my partner's stuff recently. Checking into it, I learned that under the Tools menu, if the setting 'Select Only My Objects' is checked, that will impair your editing rights ability.
I don't recall making that selection, so I can only assume it became a default in the current release.

Thank You!

Ah, Sashi, you're brilliant! In the past I have had to select that manually when working with large number of items on a parcel, but I see that it's now left on as the default. I just unchecked it, and indeed I am able to edit my partner's objects again.
Thanks so much for the insight. It's solved huge headaches.
Cheers :^)

Actually, credit goes to Lex Neva for this solution. I originally posted a query in Second Life Answers about this problem, when Lex notified me in world how to correct it. After that, I edited my orginal post to include the information lex provided. Here's the thread: /139/4d/118119/1.htmlTorley responded to it, so the Lindens are aware of the problem now.

I don't think that this is a default in the current release, or if it is, that's a big huge problem. Put it this way: it didn't enable for me. However, if you have someone else in your house who's using SL, and they turn on the option, it'll stick on for you. Also, I think that option is very close to the top of the tools menu... you could accidentally hit it with a slip of the mouse and not even know.

I could have had one of them select it for one reason or another then forget to unset it. The biggest issue though is that not many people are aware of how that setting will affect editing, since Torley mentioned she had been getting a lot of reports of people having trouble with this. Perhaps if they made it a 'temporary selection' item so it would deactivate upon logout.
