Hiya......I know different results vary....but I got a laptop the other day, nothing high tech, its a Philips Freevents.... runs a 1.8 Centrino processor.... has a gig of ram.. and integrated graphics with accelerator. Out of interest, I downloaded SL and installed. Now normally i run it on my desktop.... 3.2 gig Intel Dual Processor, 2 gig of ram.... and a 7800GTX....
I was amazed to see that the laptop ran it pretty flawlessly...main sacrifice was to have terrain set to low, and draw distance at 196. But it ran no problems. Which leads me to think that it may be more to do with my broadband connection being pretty good. Im sure others will have more info, but that's MY experience from today. |

My Compaq Pressario R3340 notebook runs great and it only has a GeForce 4 video card. This may be hard to believe but I have never crashed (I have been here 1 1/2 years) and the graphics are sharp! I love my little notebook.

I run SL solely on my Toshiba Satellite notebook, which has an unsupported (officially) video card. I sometimes lag more than people I know with desktops (and proper vid cards
) and have to fiddle with graphics settings in crowded places but that's really it. SL runs quite reliably for me. |

three laptops
04-17-2006 02:00
I've run sl on three laptops
1) MacBook Pro Intel Core Duo....fabulous 2) Mac Powerbook 12 in 1.5 GHz, 1.25 G Ram....ok but sometime prone to two or three second pauses even with most of the graphics needs set low 3) Toshiba (2004 model, predecessor to Qosmio) 64 M graphics gard, 768 Ram, 3 GHz Intel processor, 17 inch screen. No problems at all provided many of the graphics features are turned low. The biggest single benefit on the machines I've used is to keep the draw distance down as low as you can. Non-statistically-significant conclusion...on a good laptop SL runs very well. |

I run SL on a Dell Inspiron 5150 that's a couple years old. I'm actually not sure if my video card is officially supported or not, but things work well enough. (Well enough for me, anyway -- prior to SL, the last time I'd done any kind of graphical game was in the mid-90s, so it's not like I'm a good judge.) I don't even have to turn down the level of detail, or keep all the extra graphical bells and whistles (Shiny Objects, etc.) turned off. High draw distance is a killer, though, as is the old local lighting system.

I run SL on a 3 year old HP ZD7000, has a Geforce 5600 Go 128MB, seems to run allright, but nothing compared to my gaming rig, if you DONT have to use a laptop I would suggest you get a PC you cant upgrade the video card, unless you wanna pay a lot.

I run SL on cheap asus with celeron mobile 1.5ghz, 512mb ram and very low end integrated graphics card. With everything on lowest and draw distance 64m i have max 8fps in almost empty areas. But I can still build and script when I'm far from my normal comp.

I use an Acer Travelmate C310 with Intel 915 integrated video and 1 Gig of RAM. If you tone down the graphics a little you get quite satisfying results. And apart from that, the Acer runs very nicely under Linux and XP. Definitely my recommendation.

Every so often I run it on my Dell Inspiron 1100... The graphics on that machine are worse than horrible and I tend to get alot of texture corruption and lag... But other than that it runs fairly well... It's some type of integrated Intel video with 64MB... 256MB RAM installed on the machine and a P4-Celeron 2.2Ghz...

thanks to advice on this forum, i splurged on an asus V71Z, nVidia 6800 with 128M, 2G RAM, 2.13GHz PentM. it rocks!
it is a bit clunky, and i am still getting used to it. but it runs SL like a bat out of hell. |

I run SL about as often as my desktop on my laptop these days, mostly 'cause I find myself hanging out bored at lots of places. I find that all I really have to do is turn off the 'special' effects, such as the vertex program (yes, it's says 'faster' next to it... but it REALLY slows stuff down...), and ripple water, filtering, etc, and turn down the draw distance by about half, but leave everything else up, and it works just fine. I have a Compaq Presario v5000z with 1 gb ram (128 mb shared by the ATI 200m video) and a Turion64 1.8 ghz processor.
Oh! And another thing - the Omega Drivers were a must have to get it to run at all. ![]() One more thing - I've crashed a couple of times in 1.9.1 preview, completely randomly with no performance hiccups r anything just before it happens... but I figure it's because of preview. Hopefully it'll be fixed by the final release, but i doubt it since the video card isn't 'officially' supported. All in all, for a laptop I payed $650 for (about 2 months ago, brand new, straight from Compaq), I am REALLY pleased with the performance I get from it. Anywho, good luck! ![]() |

Anyone out there running SL on their laptops, and have it behaves? I'm shopping for a laptop and need some good reviews. Hi Bagu! Though you'd be better off getting a more powerful system, I find that a current model Dell Inspiron 2200 works fine with SL. Despite the fact that LL doesn't support SL on the Intel integrated video that the laptop comes with, I'm satisfied with the performance, plus I get my SL fixes while out and about at the many wifi-equiped coffeeshops we have... The best part of this lappy is the price... I paid $447 for it from the Dell Outlet.. The units you get from the Dell Outlet are factory refurbished systems, which have the same warrantee as new systems.. Of course, I've added more memory and an internal wifi card. Even with that, I still have just a bit over $600 into the machine. Its a CeleronD/370 (1.5ghz), has 1.2gb ram (256 originally, I added a gig to it as an upgrade) and a 40gb hardrive.... Tas |

I'm almost certain it's something with cooling. Maybe fan, or maybe you are closing holes under the laptop placing it on something soft?
