Are there any settings i can change to keep SL from crashing all the time? my system: cpu: Pent. 4 3200 MHZ Memory: 2 GB OS: Vista Graphics: Intel 945G Open GL: 1.4.0 Build: 7.14.10.1322
I switched SL from my 2000 machine because it kept crashing there too. SL appears to have issues with everything. Anything I can do to get this up and running? Angie

Graphics: Intel 945G <not supported ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- LL need to update their req page its years behind. Anything else then ATI / Nvidia wont work, if you get it to work youre lucky, but dont count on it working after they do a update someday. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOT compatible with Second Life: * nVidia cards that report as a RIVA TNT or TNT2 * ATI cards that report as RAGE or RAGE PRO * ATI cards that report as RADEON 320M, 340M, 345M, or similar model numbers * Intel chipsets less than a 945GM <bollox , no intel vid card will work , youre lucky if yours do, cross your fingers every update they will suddenly shut you out. These are 2d cards not ment for 3d rendering, wich SL do alot + they are horrible at opengl. * Intel Extreme * 3DFX * RIVA * TNT * SiS * S3 * S3TC * Savage * Twister * Rage * Kyro * MILENNIA * most cards by MATROX http://secondlife.com/corporate/sysreqs.php

OP: I have a couple of PCs with Intel integrated graphics that I play on, the one with the 945 chipset is actually working. But Thili is right in that we are on borrowed time - updates affect it and soon, probably when Havoc or Windlight is fully rolled out, it just won't work at all. Settings: -- run fullscreen, not in a window (Edit/Preferences/General) -- set the amount of memory for your graphics (Advanced Graphics tab) to 16 or 32MB, NO MORE than that. -- set view distance to minimum whenever you can (64m) -- Set anisotropic filtering and shiny/bumpy off (checkboxes on the Preferences graphics tabs) -- set resolution sliders (4 of them, for flexi, objects, trees, and avatars) to no more than half. i have trees set to 0 and flexi set to 1/4 all the time. -- set particles to no more than 1024 Good luck! From: Thili Playfair * Intel chipsets less than a 945GM <bollox , no intel vid card will work , youre lucky if yours do, cross your fingers every update they will suddenly shut you out.
Just a note Thili: until very recently you'd be absolutely correct, but Intel's newer GMA line supposedly is for 3D gaming. Probably why SL did change the requirements to list the actual chips that aren't supported. I guess we'll see over time.

Thanks to All

Thanks everyone, I get it now. Looks like my new system will not work either. Bummer! Can I switch out the graphics card without a lot of know how? I have swapped out ram before. Is there a DIY on the graphics card, or will it mess up my bios and all? Thanks

If your computer is a desktop, you should be able to put in a new graphics card with no problem, just following the instructions that come with it. You don't need to remove your current graphics chips (which sound like they are integrated --- that is, on the mother board).
If your computer is a laptop, the best course is simply to get a new laptop.
When you buy a new card, be sure to get the newest drivers for it from the manufacturer's website, either before you install (easiest), or upgrade to them after installing (if you do this, remember to explicitly uninstall the drivers that came with the card before upgrading them. Otherwise it may freak SL out.).

I tried control panel, intel graphics card but it doesn't give me any of those options to change. Thanks for the help!

Hi, Prince. *hands him a condolences card*
You can try the settings I gave above - those are all for the SL client. You should be able to set them all by hitting Preferences on the SL login screen before you login. Go to the various tabs (General, Graphics, Advanced Graphics) and set them up as I've specified.
However. You have the mobile version of Intel's feeble chipset, and it is even less likely to work than the OP's. You've posted the excellent report from the GMAC driver, and I will compare it to my laptop's later tonight, which miraculously is running more or less fine with the same chipset. My Thinkpad, however, with that same chipset, will not run at all. Some quirk of the Lenovo/IBM driver.
Best luck!

Best luck! Thanks for the support and info! I tried setting it up but it still crashes immediately after that log in bar fills up. I tried with wireless but even with the ethernet cord hooked up it didn't help. So disappointing but maybe I'll just buy a new graphics card, that would take care of it?

Prince, are you sure your laptop will accomodate a graphics card? Most will not.
