Crash - Lockup - Reboot

The current version of the SL viewer just doesn't seem to agree with my computer for some reason. I suffer total lockup crashes and the only way out is to reboot. I'm not sure what the cause might be. I've done long sessions in Cordova and Goguen battling my way against massive lag, time dilation and general sandbox tomfoolery without the slightest problem, yet when I'm in my quiet home sim I'm lucky if I can get more than a 5 minute stretch before my computer locks up.

This is a relatively new PC with an Intel P4 3.4 gHz dual-core (945), 1 gB RAM, ASUS P5VDC-X mobo (VIA PT880 Ultra chipset), Maxtor 250gB ATA-133 HDD and nvidia 6200 256mb grafix card. I know this computer is stable as I leave it on all day every day and just completed a 4-hour session running Cubase SX3 before logging into SL.

Any suggestions / clues /whatever?

Just as a side note I've installed Win Launcher XP and set the affinity to 1 core. Seems to be holding in OK now. Anyone else have strange results with dual-core machines?

well I just installed the optional update...worst decision ever. I cant view profiles or I crash, I cant try to IM people not on my friends list or I crash. I tried to contact Live Help but got a message that I was the only one in the chat so my message would not be retransmitted or stored. Basically, SL is fucked and no one is there to answer questions. =/

Elaina, WinLauncherXP seems to be doing the trick for me. Try it and see how it goes for you.
