I've not been able to check this out myself again because I'm unable to pull a James Miller, but I have it on good word that on Orientation Island 3 (at least), there is a bug. The notecard says:

Chat: How to Talk
-------------------

Press Enter, type what you want to say, and press Enter again to say it.
Anyone (or anything) near you will hear.

You will see a parrot to your right. He's not very smart, and usually just repeats what you say. But if you ask him nicely, he'll give you a kiss! Just walk up to him and say "Please give me a kiss".

If you want to see what has been said after it has faded out, hit Ctrl-H.

**To leave chat mode, hit the esc button.

However, several newbies have told me that when they tried this on the OI, they were unable to get the Parrot to respond, even when copying and pasting the appropriate line.

Just thought I'd post about this.

Thank you. Will look into this. You can just haller to any liaison you see in world and they would be happy to investigate! Thanks Much!

The only reason he's standing on the perch is because he's linked him to it.

Oh yeah, this happened to me. I was greatly amused to be able to sit on the parrot, though.

I am having the same problem, and it's about 4 months shy of 2 years since anyone posted about this. I'll move on, now that I know that I'm not the only one with the problem. I have been trying for several hours to get the parrot to repond, and figured that I shouldn't proceed until I knew how to talk to people.
