I'm having seriously irritating problems with SL. After I got back from a two week vacation, I come on and download the new update. But now, when I'm on SL, my computer will just randomly shut down!! I know it's not a problem with the computer itself, since it only happens when I'm on SL. I think it might have somthing to do with the new update, but I really have no idea what's causing it. I've already tried reinstalling the game, and turning off shine, but it's not working. I really need help!

What system do you have Lizzy? And is the weather overly hot there right now? Your pc just shutting down sounds a lot like an overheating issue, and as SL is one of the few programs that runs at 100% constant cpu load your temps will be maxed out completely. Let us know what you have and we can start to diagnose from there

I've got the same problem. Since yesterday, evertime i'm playing Second Life, even the game itself or the complete computer is crashing. Sometimes it needs half an hour, and sometimes just a few minutes, but no matter how long it takes, it's crashing at some time. Hope you can find the problem soon.
PS: I'm using Windows 2000

This is an issue a few people seem to be having since 1.10 and although obviously LL are working on it so far there doesn't seem to be much you can do till LL come up with a fix. Friend of mine with constant crashing has spent a LOT of time trying to resolve it with no obvious effect.

I have looked this files up, scanned it and ran the utility for it and still get the same problem and am having great difficulties getting in. I get booted regularily as well, weird.....will post again if I here anything more hun

A program crash and a complete terminal shutdown are quite different, and the causes and effects are quite different to.

Sometimes, when i rename an inventory item, save a script, save a notecard, or teleport, i crash (or freeze)... Something definitely fishy is going on... I hope it's not salmon. I've an XP with the ability to change all graphical options (except AGP, because I've a PCI-normal card)

On my end the most I get are funny things happening in-world like in 1.10.4(4) sometimes not being able to open a script until I click to edit some other object first, or a script edit not saving consistently if edited while attached. These seem to have been corrected already.
But I get zero replicable crashes from in-game. All my crashes have happened either when bad lag conditions hit while I'm traveling, bad teleports, or during login. They're all sporadic and can be traced to communication difficulties. But I get no consistent crashes from in-game features.
I understand it gets frustrating when crashes happen but in order for LL to do anything about it we have to narrow down the causes. We need to find as many common conditions as possible so it can be properly investigated. The more people we can find with the same conditions causing crashes, the easier it gets.
We can't expect LL to correct problems if the causes of the problem can't be located. Since the crashing described is not a universal phenomenon, it gets more difficult to locate the cause.
But that's exactly what we need to do.

Same crashing, shut down problem
07-09-2006 20:03
My laptop keep crashing withint 15-20 min. after logging in, it seems to be happening sooner and sooner ever since last update. If i can close out soon enough once it freezes, I can stop the entire computer from crashing, but lately it just does a restart completely unprevoked. I have u[dated the drivers, the system, reloaded SL, sun 3 different antivirus programs. It has become unplayable and it only happens when i play SL playable the crash report says it is the graphics card. I thought it might be overheating at first but now it seems to happens before my lap top even gets warm. It seems to only happen when I play SL.
i have a HPPavilion zd8000 pentium 4 ATI Radeon X600
any ideas?
please help!

This thread seems to be going in 3 different directions, only two of which are on topic. (So here's a 3rd on topic.) Ever since the last update...I can't remember if it was before or after that last optional update...my computer will randomly at any given time (HOT OR NOT HEAT DID NOT PLAY A FACTOR IN THIS) the computer only shuts down randomly when Second Life is running. Steps I have taken to resolve but to know avail? Un-install, delete, re-install Clearing Temporary Internet Files Clearing all Temp folders (Yes, I am an XP user and I know there are two Temp folders. Cleared them both out) Next step, which I don't think will work because SL will still take up the same amount of resources: Dropping all my settings as low as they can go. Lets see how long it takes for someone to post a (My SL crashed, or froze) message in a "My computer randomly SHUTS DOWN when running SL!" thread

I too am having crashing/freezing problems since 1.10 update. It happens anywhere between 15 minutes and 1 hour after i log on. Sometimes i have stablility for longer. Ive been doing different things every time it happened so its kind of hard to narrow it down to one thing. Once it happened when i was flying, then it happened when i was editing my appearance, and so on different every time.

From: Joker Opus I suggest a cooling fan, because as previously said... It is because it is very hot, expessialy in london. wow Ok Joker, how can you explain this in a room that is at 68 degrees fahrenhiet and in a computer system running well below tolerance on heating. This system is anything but hot and the room it is in is actually quite chilly overall

Theres without a doubt something with SL right now, editing pretty much anything can freeze up entire SL without warning (good thing im in window mode) happend quite alot to several of my pc's latly. Still cant figure out how to replicate this, but seems to be doing it alot when editing 1 prim at a distance for me... and whats with the wierd cam bug i can get , ended up 750m away using mouse wheel once, and went back and forth 750!m but when i hit Stand i fell straight trough the sim O.o o.O even tho i was inside a cube way in air. Hurray for oddities :> Heating can make your pc freeze yes, but i doubt it is why SL is acting so wierd right now. You can pretty much ignore all the below, i was typing and didnt stop :> blablabla' predicting a problem without actually being there is pretty much guesswork so only thing is to check one thing at a time , so without actually being there no one know why your or other pcs go belly up without theorize about some things it could be. Also leaving little pc spec info, bios, driver, heat, doesnt help. Some know ways why it go belly up mostly its old drivers messing, heating, or the latter wich happens sometimes, your pc <something> is just not on the supported list.

I was having the same problem with my laptop crashing randomly, whether or not SL was running. The moment I uninstalled the program, though, the crashing stopped. I really wanted to play, but I disn't want my comp crashing. Now, though, there has been another update and when I installed it to try and play again, the system won't get past the login page. I know it's not my comp, cause I meet all the requirements. I don't know what's up, but I feel your pain. Heat has nothing to do with it. It's something in the game.
