Hey all,
I was wondering if anyone used the application Peer Guardian on their computers. I downloaded it the other day because I thought it would protect me from some malicious sites accessing my computer. The problem is, it blocks all the ports on Second Life and I am unable to log in. Obviously I need to set to allow someone, but I have no idea how to do it. Anyone on the forum know how? Thanks

Thanks I think you should understand what Peer Guardian is used for first. It is not your usual Firewall if that was what you was looking for and if you run Vista it certainly won't work? It is a only filtering tool and does not offer any form of security to protect you against hackers or other malicious software.

Yes I understand it. Wikipedia said it blocks certain IP addresses from advertising and spyware which I deemed as malicious. I am not running Vista. Sorry for the ambiguity. I ended up deleting it and SL works fine now. I guess I can live without it. It was just suggested that I use it.

Some time ago, I became aware of this problem myself, as I also use PeerGuardian on my computers. It seems the issue has already been resolved via uninstallation, but I'll post this up for others who had the same issue and are still looking for a solution. PeerGuardian's lists seem to think that some of the IP addresses in the ranges Linden Labs uses are undesireable addresses, which it blocks. When you come across a simulator that is on one of these IPs, it appears to the PeerGuardian user as being down-- you cannot see it at all, even though it appears as up on the main map and other avatars can fly into (and vanish within) the sim. Any attempt to teleport into the sim directly or indirectly (via home, log in to, etc) will result in SL disconnecting, claiming the simulator you are in is going down. I created an allow list to always allow these sims through PG. You can do the same by creating a new text document and naming it "sl.p2p". Open this in a text editor and paste the following in to it:
Sims:63.210.156.0-63.210.159.255 Sims:64.129.40.0-64.129.47.255 Sims:64.154.220.0-64.154.223.255 Sims:66.150.244.0-66.150.245.255 Sims:69.25.104.0-69.25.105.255 Sims:72.5.12.0-72.5.15.255
Save it, then open PG, and select List Manager. Click Add, and chose File as the source. Select your sl.p2p file, give it a name, and set the little bubble to 'allow'. OK out of everything and it should now let all the SL sims in.
