Sound in-world for an iMac
I'm sure someone has probably asked this but - I am unable to hear any inworld sounds with the exception of wind and streaming music. I have changed settings and done just about everything I can think of but alas no sound.
I have an iMac G4 with an NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200. Can you tell me what I need to do in order to get in world sound?

I had this problem for ages, I couldnt find any reason for it. Then I discovered a cure ...

Try creating a new "virgin" user on your machine specially for SL, dont add whatever extras you have added to your regular (admin) user. Keep the new user clean, log in to SL and see if local sound works. It did for me!

I still don't know what's causing inworld and UI sounds not to work with the regular, i tried removing all sorts of things without luck. So nowadays I always log in with my special Laukosargas user ;)

I had the same problem and heard through word of mouth of this workaround. Not only does it work, for some reason it also seems to jump start SL sound on my main screen.
