I recently upgraded to the ATI Radeon X1650 Pro 512MB PCIe video adapter, very similar to what you are looking at. It works great for me. Makes SL look and move better than the ATI X300 256MB PCIe adapter. BTW, half of the 256MB it took from system memory. Of course, I'm not a hard core gamer, so I can't vouch for how well it works on WoW, et al.

What is better. AGP or PCI?

Hi Tya,
Most motherboards only support either AGP or PCI-Express (PCIe) but not both. So be sure to double-check which one your computer supports. The X1600 come in both PCIe and AGP flavors. PCI-Express is different than plain PCI. In general, PCI-Express is the fastest, followed by AGP, followed by plain PCI. -peekay ps. just noticed you're in Canada. TigerDirect has the same card for about 10% cheaper. |

I would reccomend an Nvidia card instead of an ATI if SecondLife is your primary 3D application. SL is based on the OpenGL API, which ATI does not support as well as Nvidia. Some people have issues with ATI cards and SL.

mine supports both.. )Mine allegedly supports both, but bridges the AGP slot off the PCI bus, not the PCIe bus, so the AGP card performs like an old PCI card... not only is it dog slow but SL (rightly) treats it as a PCI card and won't enable most advanced graphics options. If you have both PCIe and AGP I would strongly recommend pretending that the AGP slot isn't there. |

Yep, double checked--- its AGP and 3 pci slots---i did get a new card, had to get the AGP - AND OMG!!!! lol SL is completely differnt ) I knew that any lag i had was caused my rendering .. and let me tell you.. the game is completely different ![]() Thanks everyone ) |

Played SL on an eMac for a few months, then finally splurged on a new computer build with as much gaming support that I could afford. The change was AWESOME! Colors, textures, movement, sounds! It was like playing a whole new game, and I was already seriously addicted. |

I use ATI on several PC's without an issue in SL and overall prefer ATI..
HOWEVER Nvidia WILL give you better frame rates. I think the Image quality is slightly better on ATI and the framerates are not bad on ATI.. just not as good as Nv for a comparable card. |
