Grrr... I try to be understandable about the need for emergency updates and rolling blackouts and the like, but is it unreasonable to expect more than 15 SECONDS WARNING when you're taking the ENTIRE GRID down? Not $^#%ing cool!!!

That wasnt even a warning it was going to go down right then. They shouldve at least told us to say goodbye to our friends.

When u get a virus attack there's no warning smarties.......Like, if u get a virus on ur PC, do u see it knocking on ur door first and say, Hello, i'm a virus, u have 15 seconds to shutdown ur programs and then i'll invade......
So, u want a warning? Tell the virusmakers to program sum sort of warning before they strike... (I hope u see my point here....) |

Exactly my point.
LL needs a 24/7 support staff handling PR decisions (if only one person per shift), coordinating with the techs when they do these things. There are some very simple courtesies they could provide that would keep us in their corner. |

Your comparison suggests that the "virus" was the immediate cause of the shut down, when in fact, Linden Labs was responsible. Sure they're dealing with a virus-type situation, but they flipped the switch. If you're running an antivirus, you'll have a message pop up that says so-and-so file or so-and-so activity was detected and that so-and-so action is required. It'll give give you a reasonable time to save changes, etc., before disrupting your workflow. In this case, Linden Labs Support is playing the role of antivirus. Likewise, they should provide the same courtesies. |

i agree. was in the middle of chatting to someone and a message pops up saying shutting down then *poof* gone. drives me insane. its down more than up and when its up there is always something wrong. i think i made an error in investing in the game with land purchases etc. seems so unstable all the time.
a 10 minute warning could have been handy |

15 seconds??? more like 5 seconds and my poor students couldn't even pick up their beds
(I was really pissed at the lack of consideration taken by the Lindens. A few minutes warning would have been appreciated!! |

They took the grid down because of an exploit. You'd rather have people stealing your work just do you can have a minute to say goodbye? I don't think that the people you were talking to will be all that upset that you had to leave. Sheesh.
If they had waited to take down the grid, people would complain that they didn't adress an exploit fast enough. No pleasing you people. _____________________

Folks, I cannot believe what I read here.
If the grid is under serious attack then there is no higher priority than protect the grid (and YOUR content!!!!) from further damage! And if it's needed to shut it down then it has to be done ASAP! Period. To those who could not say "goodbye"to friends: We live in the communication age! it shouldn't be a problem to send then a short eMail*informing them that the grid has been shut down for security reasons and invite them to the next SL appointment as soon as the grid come up. *) or ICQ or Skype or fax or phone or SMS or ... or ... _____________________
