SL uses FMOD as a sound engine, right? It looks like FMOD has been upgraded. What version are we usin in SL and can we expect an upgrade anytime soon?

Yes sl uses fmod but looking from the dll the version is 3.7.4 dated 25th oct 2004 for both 1.6 and the current 1.7 build (this is the latest 3 build of fmod)

I like the look at 4, just depends how easy it is to port, and if they decide its necessary

Their have been ghosts in the sound system for a while maybe porting to 4 might clear some of them out.

Fmod 4 (fmod ex) requires a new license and is 2-4 times as expensive as fmod 3.74 for commercial projects. Something to take into account. And it's just out. Although probably well tested, it's often a good idea to see how it performs in the real world before implementing.

Althought the new unlimted virtual voices and new advanced streaming system etc. sound very compelling to make the switch some time soon ;)

There's a particular problem a number of Residents, including Huns Valen and I, wish to see solved very much.
