Everytime I connect to a new region, the voice chat disconnects and cannot be used. There isnt even a button to retry the connection, it just stays dissconnected. Anyone else having th is issue or is it just me?

It's a 'feature', the client has to 'poll' the voice servers as you move around, even between parcels. Sometimes, TPing disconnects the client from the 3rd party voice chat servers. I have noticed that the new client does poll the voice chat servers at regular intervals, but only if you remain in an area where there are other voice users, otherwise it sort of stagnates and assumes that as you don't have anyone to speak to, you don't need the facility, which goes against the function of using IM voice chat across SL. I would have liked to have seen a 'refresh' function to reconnect to the voice chat servers, but as a priority, would prefer a more stable platform first.

From: AWM Mars otherwise it sort of stagnates and assumes that as you don't have anyone to speak to, you don't need the facility So it disconnects when not being used? I've noticed that too, but I thought they were server hickups. Are you sure this is done intentionally? Because if it is, I don't see the point. Most of the times I don't use voice yet. But when I do want to use it in the same sim after a while, it would be nice if I didn't have to tp or relog out and in again.

But when I do want to use it in the same sim after a while, it would be nice if I didn't have to tp or relog out and in again. The issue here is cost. All the time you are connected to the voice servers, someone is footing the bill in bandwidth and resources. From my understanding of the 'business model' rollout, was that each sim owner would have to pay a fixed fee to have voice enabled over their sim. I do not know if this changed, but they are certainly not at this time charging any user fees for the system. I suspect as time goes on, this may change (give a dog a bone, then try taking it back). There.com gave each user an option for using voice, for a fixed one off fee. As a business man, I cannot see how this generates any revenue, and the one off fee will have a lifespan, simply on the basis, someone is paying for the server, the support, upgrading, bandwidth etc.. as an ongoing concern. The 'disconnection' issue maybe by design, or by LL design lol... who knows. Having used the There.com voice, LL offerings are quite weak in comparrision.
