I own a couple of Islands, and someone is continually giving my copies of my conversation. From what I understand, the spy bot deletes itself. Can someone help me understand if there is a defense against this?

This spy would still be a prim owned by whoever is spying on you. Set your land to autoreturn objects not owned by you or your group (if it's group land) and their spy will be removed from your land. Of course if the spy is someone in your group... then you have a problem there. As far as I know, there's no way to detect these things, they are extremely tiny and don't even show up when you view transparency. Maybe only say important thing in IM until you get this solved.

Dont quote me on this since i dont have a clue how land work,

Disable rezzing objects others the the one in land group, dont allow other then ones in group to run scripts either.

Figure out who it is then report and ban them, this one is very very bad for them to get cought doing, give me sim you think its in, and i could usually find it with some snooping ^.^

If you know this is happening, like if it's more than just a feeling that somebody must be doing this, you might want to file an abuse report...

Look at all the objects on your land and their positions. Find the ones that don't belong there. Record their textures, names, and params. The object this person is using to spy with will stick out like a sore thumb. Report this person and write a script that will seek out and remove these objects when they are created on your land, until this person is delt with. Have the script keep logs on the activity of these objects. The chances are this person is using the same objects for this every time. If they notice you have found their object and automated a way of dealing with them, they may try to change it enough to slip past your automated detection and removal system. In which case simple go through the first steps again and adjust your detection and removal scripts. If they do this, report them again. They will be delt with.

You might also want to ask yourself if this person is doing this for "fun" or has a personal grudge against you. This would alter the way I would deal with such a person, were I in your shoes.

Why exactly does this person keep handing you your own chat transcripts?

You don't list what you've already done, so forgive me if you've already used the Objects tab in About Land to see if any of this person's objects are currently on your sim. You can select that person's name in the list and it will highlight all of the objects, no matter how small they are, wherever they are in the currently selected parcel.

But if this is a short-lived item they keep tossing down all the time, you have several options: limit building to your group, banning the individual, setting autoreturn to it's shortest (10 minutes), using objects that detect other scripted objects in the vicinity, limit your sensitive discussions to IM. You know you can have multi-party IM conferences by selecting multiple people in your friends list and clicking IM?

Well this one's pretty easy if you have full sim access. Go to i think the World menu, pulldown and go to Region/Estate (i think...) Then in the resulting menu go to the Debug tab and Top Scripts.

Everything in the sim with a script on it should be listed. Hit refresh a couple times, then sort by owner. Then click anything suspicious or by anyone your not familiar with, click the name of it, and click Show (or Show on map, the button that highlights it, heh, not in game at the moment so I dont know the exact name.)

There should be a red beacon going streight up from the object. If it's something that you know is clean, move on to the next. If a beacon is hanging ove what appears to be nothing, immediately disable the object (from the same window), and report it to a linden and have them come over and take a look at it.

Listeners can only work from the range at which someone can hear you talking, so try to remember where you were when you said the things given to you in the chatlog or just search especially well around the area you hang out most at.

If any of what I said is wrong, please tell me, heh. ^^

Updating Info

Supposedly this this bot can go several hundred meters. I can only control the parcel I am in. Yes, I own the island, and yes, I have screened all scirpts from time to time, which God only knows, is tons. Have never found it. I cannot ask other owners of parcesl to set anything to auto return. Would be against their rights. But thanks all of you for posting, and answering, and yes I did file a report, with a massive amount of information, which will probably get the person a 3 day warning.

Thanks again,

Cal Alexander
