Well, as Im sure most of you know Textures are THE only commercial item sellers in SL dont have any control over perms.

In short they are no good unless set to full permissions.

I wont go into the reasons why but they arent and thats that.

This leads to easy ' oh i know, I bought a load of textures ill stick them all upfor sale!' kinda naive people , and so far with some support and pressure off other texture stores we kinda gang together and threaten them blah blah and they usualy take them down.
Thats the ones we hear of or are found when I have the time to check out new texture stores

Drift Monde from TU has had to fight tooth & nail now and I myself and getting a taste of what Drift has had problems with since she set up 2 yrs ago

I know shes in contact with Philip Linden about it and I myself wrote to him and his reply was

" we cant think of a way to alter the permissions so people cant resell but still have the transfer option, if you think of any way let me know! "

Now I dont know zip about stuff like this...but i guess id ask

Ok for textures alone add a feature of ' transfer ONLY' and 'Transfer Resell'

I know some ppl are calling for a 'no transfer on everything which would totally destroy the texture business.

How hard can it be to add a feature like this?

Transfer Only
Resell
Modify
Copy

I dont understand why Philip cant 'think of a way' to do this or maybe o his list of priorities its kinda LOW

well im sorry but im gonna toot my horn here.

Texture stores play a LARGE part in SL...hell without wanting to sound like some virtual GOD without us ppl would have a hard time finding the stuff we find much less create!

I have sim owners who put requests in for new road textures, railway tracks, frontage and sky scraper back grounds.... in short I and others are helping to change the appearance of SL making it look interesting & realistic....this is a benefit to LL as noobs come in and think 'wow' looks good!

I think we really deserve the time and effort required to add this option...I work damb hard this is a full time job to me now...in photoshop...i get pictures sent me from ppl used my stuff and im proud to see how my textures have helped create something really special

so why dont we get the backup we so desperatly need?

Im sorry im making this a personal 'axe grinding' post and that wasnt my intention

Im asking ppl here, if THEY know a way cuz if so I will pass these ideas onto Philip as he asked me to do and maybe you will get rewarded?

Hell if they use it I'll REWARD you $200 if you trust me i promise I will do this.

I work so hard and and its really NOT fair that we have to leave ourselves wide open for abuse because of texture perms....

:(

Ok im off my soap box now...but seriously...is it really THAT hard?

plz let me know if you can think of a way or maybe understand more clearly why Linden Labs are having problems with doing this cuz its not THAT obvious to me.

many thanks for reading my rant

OK ive just thought, modify is an issue too....i dont want to advertise why cuz i fear those not in the know may use it against me and others but i think those that would respond to this would know already...and maybe THATS the problem not just as simple as adding an extra perm option...but that WOULD be a start and a step in the right direction!

And I have the converse problem of all the no-mod clothes that you can't adjust the fit of, presumably to protect the textures in the clothes (though I'm at somewhat of a loss to figure out what they're afraid of).

I know some people are only handing out textures in the form of prims with the textures loaded into them, or scripts that apply the texture to a prim.

There's a lot of brokenness in the permissions system. For example, I can take a no-trans animation and make a poseball or animation overrider out of it, but I can't do the same thing with a gesture. Why shouldn't it just turn into a no-trans gesture, the way the AO object becomes no-trans?

LillyBeth, the issues you have pointed out with the selling of textures is precisely why quite a few texture makers don't open shops selling textures. It is just way too easy for any unscrupulous person to take your hard worked on textures (and alphas), box them up and resell them.
I do a small amount of custom texture and alpha work, and would love to be able to expand that business, and indeed it has been suggested to me many times that I should set up a texture shop. But honestly I just don't want the hassle of spending part of my SL time tracking down people that have chosen to then take my work and resell it.

yeah quite, just had yet another run in with a store who had mine, TU and so many others textures in her vendors... and proudly advertised as $5 Texture Barn!

so low, Hell she didnt even pay for the upload...no wonder she can offer them so cheap!

well she eventualy did take them down or so I believed and left a sign outside her store with a public apology.

Then today 4 weeks later, I see what I believed to be a new store & went over to do the usual..check they arent mine...and it turns out its same person just changed the store name...a quick glance tells me shes no photoshop exp all common textures off the net then a few catch my eye..and sure enough THEYRE MINE!!!! and 2 other people had their textures in there too....I IMd her asked to remove them now...and she turns up with her now well known 'attitude'
And defends herself by saying ' well i dont they were big sellers anyway' like i care?!
Thats NOT the point...

She tried to defend her last attempt by saying TU overcharged for hers so its about time some-one came in and offered good prices (??!!)

If she had ANY F***ING idea how hard it is to source, find, create, modify genuin rare and realistic textures she wouldnt be charging 5L$ thats for sure...

I buy texture CDs to work from...am a paying member of istock and other texture & photograph resource sites and spent a small fortune on plug ins and filters for photoshop...
I dont just stick 'Texture' in googles search bar and upload the free textures..
I paid to be a member of this online registration Co' that gives you a plug in so u can leave a water mark in all your own texture created in PS...to overcome this theft issue but apparently, if some-one steals mine to their HD it saves as TGA and then reuploads as TGA and the water mark would disapear anyway!? ( cost me $200 a year for that plug in)

I AM trying..and am close to tears with it all...not to mention the amount of ppl i hear say ' oh i was GIVEN this bundle of textures off a friend...do you have any more like it? '
OR
" you buy this bundle...'Ill buy that and we'll swap"
They think its 'ok' its not and im pissed off LOL

Im sorry but i am...ive made myself ill with work lately...i suffer from M.E and i just wanted to make a little p/t income..and I am but very much against the odds.

I am sick to death of this BS its not fair...and quite frankly...I think LL is just ignoring the issues not on their list of priorities.

pisses me off no end and makes me feel like ' why bother?'

I don't know how I ended up in textures Snoopy, I Mean LillyBeth, (;)) but sadly most threads these days end the exact same way

The good news is you have one hell of a reputation in SL. You do excellant work and are well respected

I know it is not a monetary or eithical solution, but I do hope it helps to carry you through your days with pride and satisfaction

SL needs you =)

its annoying isnt it ;) , yeah i still find people selling textures they didnt make (oh hey look its a diffrent creator gee), are freebee's , pretty much all over SL , usual excuses

; but it was set for full mod rights if you didnt want them to be resold, you should change them
yeah... a no transfer texture mess up a entire build thats nice.

; i didnt know they where free'bee's
nor did you bother asking the creator, or person who uploaded them oh wait did you read the notecard?.

heres a new one i gotten

; its for charity ! you should feel bad!
umm... yeah everyone need that, wish you guys good luck, but they are still ment to be costing 0$L for them.

SL really do need a tick for "no resale of this texture possible" ... how many bet that will mess up a build perm :p

I wanted to give out a few textures at xmas again :/ but im changing my mind to, untill a better system come up, noticed way to many rip off newbee's that dont know better and just slap on a price, and call them their own.

-.- I like giving, not give some people a chance to sell them, it get really old fighting with people about this, i can point out several places that even sell Linden textures for $L , did linden do something no.

Can you sell the texture as a no-mod/no trans script with the texture key in it that lets you texture a prim but doesn't actually give you the texture object?

you can use uuid's to apply textures on a prim, but then you cant preview it, and having 1000's of textures sorted in diffrent folders -.-

SL can find sides on a prim with a script then you can put it on there, but eh, its not really efficent way to do it, alot more work then dragging or scrolling trough to find one that would fit.

Not to sure how mod's would be on that tho, should be full,

Create a preview tool in your HUD that lets you scroll through the textures. It actually sounds like an interesting challenge... I'd be happy to write one for you, open source since you'd need to put the UUIDs in the no-mod script you actually delivered. With a little work this could be made *more* convenient, not less... then when you get the one you like it'd llSay() the index to the matching script (not the key, since yuo don't want people running snoopers to find them).

There are ways to make finding the sides easier, too. And, actually, I'd almost rather build that way because I'm *always* texturing the wrong sides (or forgetting to hit the "texture" tab and accidentally texturing ALL the sides :) ).

definatly a good idea, then you could sell the hud instead of texture, it wouldnt need to be mod either i think, since it will pull the uuid out of script and place it for you on the side of a prim you want, im not a scripter so i wouldnt know how :p

getting a preview prob just as slow as opening it from inventory anyway.

But would be very handy for freebee's or textures you want to sell, but not have people distrubate.

\o two thumbs up for that idea, wouldnt it blow up by the sheer size tho, i know i have about 13000 textures :p

another thing not related
HUD need a way to be "locked" so they cant be picked and dragged around <.< however using it "clicking" would work..

You'd have to organize them somehow. I imagine that each HUD you sell would contain a collection of textures, with a thumbnail sheet that you can just bring up as a texture.

My HUDs can't be dragged unless you edit them. At least mine can't! What's up with yours?
