ATI Radeon 9250 Driver Out Of Date

Ok...fresh install of windows, newly bought card.

Pentium 4 1600Mhz
640mb ram
Ati Radeon 9250 128mb
Fresh install windows

When using the drivers supplied with the card or the new catylist (5.9) drivers from the ATI website, it keeps saying (Drivers are out of date). When I chose to continue the game runs fine, everything around me rezzes fine, pretty decent performance....but my own avatar does not show.

I can see my hair and my shoes, but that's it. When I got to appearances I can only edit those as well.

I browsed through the forums and found people with similar problems (driver out of date) and for many of them the Omega Drivers fixed it.

So I downloaded the new omega drivers and installed them. The game wouldn't run anymore, it would give a runtime eror.

Other games run fine with both drivers, World of Warcraft for example runs fine with both the Catylist and Omega drivers.

Tried reinstalling the game, didn't do anything.

Any ideas anyone?

The ATI 9250 is reported to have MANY problems. If it's an older (meaning you've had it for a while) card, try upgrading to a Nvidia 6600GT. I've only heard and read great things about it and it's fairly cheap -- but we're not all made out of money. Seems like SL just doesn't like that card...

Best of luck --

Tell me again why I should spend lots of money to upgrade a card that works perfect with every other game?

It's not the card having problems....it's their game having problems with the card.

r9250 vs a gf6600 ?, not really fair

r9250 = Directx 8.1 , 1.4 pixel shaders support
gf6600 - Directx 9.0 , 2.0 pixel shader support

SL has issues with older Ati's, and that card isnt excactly new, but it is possible to make it work, some have.

For playing playing graphically intense games/SL this is not a card id recommend, as youll be software emulating, or missing out on most of the dx9 , hense unstability, crashing, and randomness.

Im not saying its impossible to make it run, just good luck o.o

(ducks as i get every other ati user on my neck saying that)

Oh theres some other people in SL that had issues with invis av's not sure if they fixed that, was a bug,

You could try drivercleaner, remove everything that has ati, reboot, download catalyst again, reinstall that, then delete SL cache, ( C:\Documents and Settings\**username**\Application Data\SecondLife\cache )

See if you have corrupted cache that make you crash, happens.

SL might not be able to correctly register the 5.9 catalyst. Try downloading 5.7 or 5.8 from ATI's website. I used to run SL fine with my old Radeon 9000 at 5.6/5.7. Never updated the drivers for my cards until just recently when I bought my 9800 Pro.

I hope this works for ya.

Edit: Just to clarify, you have to update your drivers with every release of a new Direct X or if you're experience problems in a new game or game update. Those are probably the only times I'll update drivers. I even check the release notes on ATI's site just to make sure that there's a fix I need somewhere in there.

Was having the same issue with the drivers supplied with the card, thus updated them to 5.9.

Will try the drivercleaner and reinstall thing.

The game runs with the 5.9 drivers, my av just doesn't show up (except hair and shoes), everything else shows up and works perfect.

Thanks for your reply!

From http://secondlife.com/tiki/tiki-index.php?page=TechCannotSeeSelf :
From: someone
Question:
I cannot see my own avatar. How can I fix this?

Answer:
You may be in Mouselook.
Avatar Vertex Program can cause invisible avatars on certain configurations.
Your avatar's body, shape, or outfit may be incorrect and need updating or refreshing.

Press ESC a few times to ensure you're not in Mouselook. (Or press M outside of chat.)

Try completely changing and updating your avatar with the following steps:
1) Open your inventory, go to your Clothing folder, and right-click and make a New Folder. I named mine "invis fix".
2) Right-click this folder, and create new Body Parts and Clothing (Shape, Skin, Hair; Shirt, Pants, Shoes, etc). You'll want one new outfit part of each type. You don't need to edit or customize these parts.
3) When you have a new copy of each Body Part and Shape, double-click each part to put it on.
4) You may have to relog for the outfit change to take effect.
5) When you return to Second Life, you can switch back to your previous outfit.

If the problem persists, open Preferences (on the login screen, or Edit->Preferences inworld), go to the Adv. Graphics tab, and disable Avatar Vertex Program. Then click OK.

Macintosh users should try unchecking Avatar Vertex Program first, as it causes invisible avatars in some graphics systems.
