Hi. I just recently got my net hooked up at my house and I've tried (as far as I know) everything to be able to get into SL. It will log me in, get to the main part where I can see my AV, start downloading the area for about 2 seconds, and the link to SL dies. It just stops working, can't move, can't chat, or anything, and it doesnt try to self-fix.
Things I have tried; DNS Flush IP Release/Renew Port Forwarding Port Triggering Clear Cache Uninstall/Reinstall Logging in with WindLight Changing the port that connects to SL Resetting my modem/router (it's both one and the same)
I can't think of anything more to do...please help? I don't feel like submitting a ticket and waiting 6 months for an answer (it's happened to me before...)

When this happens, everything else on your PC is fine? You can access the internet, etc?
Did you check your firewall? SL needs these ports open:
TCP-443 TCP-80 TCP/UDP-12035 TCP/UDP-12036 TCP/UDP-13000-13050 TCP-12043
There are others for voice as well, but these should get you logged in.

Ive had this also. I managed to get inworld on the latest windlight viewer only after uninstalling the 2 viewers I had (main and newest windlight), making sure I ticked yes to remove stored files at the end of the uninstalls. I rebooted my system and installed windlight viewer only ..... fingers crossed its seems to work now, though I do have to right click the desktop icon and run as admin.
Best of luck.

I tried your method Caroline, and no dice. I still come up link-dead. I have already tried forwarding the ports and triggering them *not at the same time*, and that didnt help at all.

If I read what you said early on in your thread correctly I think you are using a PC that is wireless to your router and your laptop is hard wired.......if so, try switching those connections and see what happens. Also, are you using Norton by any chance for your security? Norton and McAfee don't have a good reputation of working very well with SL. And have you looked for a firmware upgrade for your router?
Just a few things to try.

I don't use Norton since the Gateway acts as a hardware firewall. I use AVG Free edition, and SpyBot S&D. I only have my laptop. No PC. The only wireless things are my PS3 and my DS. I can connect to SL on my friend's connection next door and they have the same setup as me.
As far as firmware upgrades go, there are no upgrades. The site (netgear) doesn't have them for the model (CG814WG). It says downloads would be available from the distributor (Road Runner) but they have nothing.
What the **** is going on with SL these days blaaaah.

I use a Linksys router too. Did you get that handy network setup CD? I had network problems when I got that router a few months ago and ran the software to fix the problems.......it worked. Try that maybe. And since then I've replaced my computer with a brand new Lenovo and did not have any issues when I turned it all on............so I don't have that software on this system. But, if ever get network issues I'll install it again.

You can connect next door? Using your laptop? If so, yes, gotta be the network.
Have you tried power cycling your modem, leaving it off for, say, 15 minutes? Maybe theres a web cache somewhere defeating you.
Personally, I would try, very briefly, turning your firewall off in the gateway (if you can) and logging in. I still suspect its configuration. But that's just me.
