Since last wednesday, SL crashes periodically and casues my computer to shut off and reboot. I have not installed anything new. I have no idea how to fix this problem. Has anybody else encountered this. I mean my comp just shuts off as if the reset button has been hit. This only occurs when SL is running otherwise things are ok and I never crash as descirbed. Please help!

Reboots like that, in my past experiences, indicates CPU overheating. the reboot is a safety precaution on the motherboard to prevent the chip from burning, a lot of cases, taking the side of your computer off, and dusting out the fan on the CPU can fix the problem, as over time, dust cakes in there, and causes more heat. I hope this helps

But do you think that it is SL that makes the CPU overheat because the problem only occurs when I am running SL?

It is quite possible, as SL is known for taking a lot of CPU power, and the more the CPU is being used, the hotter it can get.
