Which is more important, video RAM or system RAM?

I am curious which is more important to SL, video RAM or system RAM? I currently play on a laptop with 128M dedicated video ram, and 1G system ram. I can set my video RAM to share system RAM to what would be 512M. My question is, should I do this, or should I decrease my use of video RAM and allow more system RAM while playing SL?

NOTE: I hope system RAM is the more important, because I can get more of that, but if it is video, I am SOL.

Thanks! I will see what happens when I tell the video card not to use any system RAM. Also, I can use other viewers besides the one i downloaded form SL? Are they better than the 'stock' viewers? (i am really, really new to all of this).
