This has been a problem for me since 1.8.. I cant go to sky boxes, or any kind of altitude. I get random crashes about 5 minutes apart, its a bit annoying  Specs: 2.8ghz p4, 1gb ram, p4c800 delux (mobo), asus radion 9800xt never had this problem befoir and was wondering if Im alone (

That's odd. You'd think that there'd be less stress on the client at altitude.
Well, anyway, as a point of reference. I'm not having any problems there. The past couple of days I've been building at altitude and even have my home position set there. I have just about everything except local lighting turned on.

i've also had random crashing with about teh same frequency as you since 1.8. i'm usually in my skybox house, but it happens for me on the ground also. i'm still testing, but i think it only happens when i have the new ripple water on.. even though i'm too high for water to be rendered, have disable farclip off. probably a different issue entirely, but who knows. you using sexy water?

Have a feeling theres something with alpha/ripple water, i crash alot latly if i go over cloud line, its pretty random tho.
Sometimes can stay on forever no crash, fly up and sit on something above clouds, plop crash to desktop, repeat it, log in, fly up, wait abit crash.

Same for me, actually. First noticed and reported it in the Preview server before 1.8 was out. Anything past 100 meters in height would crash me randomly with ripple water turned on, even if I was too high for the water to be rendered. It happened three times yesterday as well. Makes it hazardous to fly around.
