Latest release, crash, pear-shaped-ness

Hi folks,

By a dreadful irony, I chose to subscribe at the same time as the new release... and it's all gone horribly wrong for me. The client runs for about 5 minutes and then I get break-up on various parts of the screen (random geometry, triangles all over the shooting match, etc.) which terminates a couple of minutes after that with a complete system failure: blank screen, hard restart of computer required. If I didn't know better, it has over-run vertex buffer/mis-matched index buffer written all over it :)

This is on a PC with a card supporting VS/PS 2.0s running fully patched XP SP2.

The previous version had run OK for a good length of time and other than awful performance, it ran OK on my Mac.

Is there anything known, or is this one of "those things" that is affecting me and no-one else?

Alice

Sounds likely to be a video driver related problem. First, try getting the latest official driver for your card from ati.com. If that doesn't help, you might try the patched Radeon driver that you can get from the Omega Drivers site that lets you run the Radeon drivers on your FireGL video -- the two chips are close relatives these days, but the Radeon is officially supported by SL and the FireGL isn't, so it might help.

Using DriverCleaner Pro between driver swtiches can help make sure that you get a clean state with no stray mismatched driver files.
