Just installed second life and it won't connect. I can surf the web and all (ie I am definitely connected to the Internet and can access the Second life website).

I'm running SL 1.5.5 on a Mac Powerbook G4 OS 10.3.6 with a broadband Internet connection.

I created a trial user account via the web and then started SL, put in my SL name and password and clicked Connect. After a bit I got the dialog box that says:

Unable to connect to Second Life. The system may be down. Please try again in a few minutes.

Is this me or is there a server problem? Are there firewall issues? I'm behind a NAT or two.

I sent a message to support but have not heard back from them.

I've tried it a few times now over the last few hours...

Are you on a wireless network? If so, does plugging in directly fix it?

I am on a wireless network in my home and my broadband connection is wireless too. Not sure why this would effect things. But unfortunately, my home network has a NAT/Firewall and the broadband connection is behind a NAT. Neither NAT should be blocking any ports but would be translating them. i turnned off the Firewall on my Macintosh.

I will try connecting my laptop without wireless just to check. but it will take a while...

Thanks!

I had the same problem when I first started. There were a series of ports I had to enable... I forget the exact ranges. I think they were in the 12000s or the 20000's.

Looks like so, I can not connect either.
It has been standing at "Connecting to Region" for over 5 minutes.
