Already posted a bug report on this - and had a friend duplicate just to be sure. If this problem is already noted & posted - my apologies.
Changing an 100% alpha texture to "Blank" or "Default" using the texture picker causes an immediate client crash.
I can't confirm if its *any* 100% alpha texture, or just my own. But if this texture is on an existing object, the client will crash as soon as you click the "Blank" or "Default" buttons in the texture picker to try & change it.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Create an object, set at least one side to a 100% alpha texture. 2. Edit the object, and attempt to change the texture on the alpha side to "blank" or "default" - using the buttons in the texture picker. 3. Crash 4. (Interesting) 1st login after crash will fail at "connecting to server" every time. 5. 2nd Login will succeed.
Anyone else seen this?

Does the object you're texturing have contents? This might be related to the bug I reciently filed related to texturing objects that have contents.

I can confirm this happened to me last night. I hit the default button, and poof, no more SL. I have not tried to reproduce it though. That button scares me now.
Edit: Come to think of it, Solar, the object I was working on did have a teleport script in it.

Confirmed here, though not on objects with contents.
Any all crashes I experience result in failure on the first reconnect attempt. Methinks there is a bug in severing connections.

I believe this is the bug I saw in 1.6 preview but couldn't repro... I never thought it'd be alpha related.
I'll investigate further as this is a personal grudge bug.

Are you setting the alpha using the transparency options or a texture? I set a cube with my clear texture (uuid: c0c6d7f6-5d73-76c5-72d9-cf728dbde64c) and switched it to default/none without trouble.

Once again the Lindens are answering tech issues in the Hotline to Linden forum. This bug has already been addressed there - several days ago, in fact. Kelly Linden's Post From: Kelly Linden This bug is entirely my fault. It will definatly be fixed in the next client release. As I have said before, don't post your tech issues in the tech issue forum, post it to the Hotline to Linden forum and you get an answer. Until the Lindens change their behavior, why even bother to use the forums 'correctly'.

Uhm. Please don't fill the Hotline forum with pointless technical support questions. That is not what it's there for. I get the feeling this forum is also not exactly for technical support directly from the lindens, it's more for questions that can be answered by other members of the community. If you have a problem, you have several options. You can (and should!) post a bug report inside the client with the steps to reproduce your problem. I've personally submitted over 50 bug reports in my time in SL. You can send an email to support@secondlife.com, or you can call the support phone number, although you should bear with them as they move their office to a new location this weekend. You should not post your question in the Hotline forum. It's essentially line-jumping and wasting time so that the actual good uses of the forum (questions on the direction of SL, for example) get buried in pointless tech support questions. This issue is of course compounded when multiple people post the same question to the hotline. I'm not sure what's meant by your snyde little comment about "changing their behavior", but come on. There's a method set up to deal with support requests... what better can you ask for? Do you really want this small company to spend their time reading every single comment in every single thread in this forum? I know I can't handle it. People just post too much. Do you read every single comment, Saul?

It must get awful windy up there on that high horse of yours.
Alas, I shall have to use a larger sarcasm club in my next reply.
The point is, as long as the Lindens ANSWER 'pointless tech support questions' in the Hotline to Lindens forum, people will continue to use it for the wrong purposes. If they are going to use the forums to reply to tech issues, then they should reply to THIS forum, or not at all.
You don't modify behavior by rewarding incorrect actions.
