I suddenly can't even get passed the 'detecting hardware' box, it's been working fine for months, I uninstalled and reinstalled and now I can't get passed that box?

add a -noprobe to SL shortcuit, see if that does something.

"C:\Program Files\SecondLife\SecondLife.exe" -noprobe

Are there any other command line options for the SL executable ?

For example, is there anything that might solve the problem with SL not supporting the special characters in the "Documents and Settings" folder ?

I can not start SL due to this bug...

That is not a fix. It is a work around. It does work and I had tried it immediatly after not being able to get in through my normal account.

My point is that I do not want to have several accounts in my PC...

The -noprobe doesn't work on mine. Somewhere after 1.7 SecondLife stopped working on my laptop. I have an Intel Extreme 855 which is specifically listed (now at least) as not supported on the Technical section, but it used to work great before 1.7.

as long as ive been around the only supported video cards were nvidia and ATI, anything else is just a dice roll every update
