LCD Monitor Problem

I got a KDS K717 17" LCD monitor for Christmas, ever since I've had it the upper left side of the monitor is darker than the lower right side. I've already checked the connection between the monitor and the NVIDIA 6800 512 MB video card and played with the onscreen controls of the monitor, it is still the same. I already have searched the internet for solutions and there doesn't seem to be an answer for it, that I can find.

Does anybody know how to correct this problem without having to take it back to where it came from?

Is it a concentrated spot, or a whole area that gradually fades light-dark? I've seen LCD's damaged by people touching them too hard, leaving bright white spots where they applied pressure to the screen.

Have you opened a full-screen black background to test it with? That would help reveal any anomalies. Quick way to do this is to hit start-run and then type CMD & press ok. once the dos box pops up hit alt-enter and it will full screen. type "exit" to go back to windows.

It *could* just be the monitor, but if it's really bugging you I'd get it swapped it out. If you can see an identical monitor, like a display model where you bought it, then compare the two.

Good luck, first lcd I got had an eraser-sized spot in the top left corner, after many phone calls with tech support, I finally got the company to take it back, but instead of replacing it they refunded me and I was out about $40 in shipping.

they will turn purple/blue dark if they are pressed on too hard also (if you ever have the chance play with one that has the glass cracked but not the plastic heh )

LCDs are light from behind by a bank of fluorescent tubes. Failing the suggestions above you may be seeing a partially bad bulb. What you are describing seems a little too analog to be the nVidia. Regardless, send it to meet its maker.
